Please help! I know this may not be the proper forum for this question but I was not sure as to where I needed to post it. My female Lucy went into heat this past Sunday so I took my little boy and had him neutered this past Wednesday to prevent anything from happening. (I planned to get her spayed as soon as she went out of heat but was told it was too dangerous). So tonight, I went out for less than 10 minutes and when I returned they were locked together! I called a friend of mine and learned that he still can produce sperm for up to 2 weeks after being neutered so I am sure she will probably be pregnant again. The question I need to ask is will it be okay to have her spayed while she is in heat? Or can she be spayed after she goes out of heat before the puppies start to form? I know that I may seem irresponsible but I never would have thought that he would have gotten to her that fast as she's only been in heat for less than a week. I don't want to risk having puppies again as her last litter resulted in 5 puppies and she is only 5lbs. Everything went well with the birthing process but she became unable to feed the babies 4 days after. Please advise me of my best and safest options. Thank you |
There is a bit more risk when spaying a female in heat because there is more blood involved, but it is still considered acceptable. In this case, I think it is best for her to go ahead and do it now. Call the vet tomorrow or Monday, tell them that you want her spayed and ask if they will do it. Then schedule asap.. |
Belle was in heat when she was spayed a little more than 2 weeks ago. She had to be because she was in persistant eutrus (her heat cycle was not ending - was in heat from first week of June until she was spayed on July 27th) The surgery went well, but her uterus was enlarged and more vascular due to being in heat - her incision is longer than for a routine spay. She is fine now. Good luck with your little girl in whatever you decide to do. |
My Holly was in heat when I got her spayed, and we didn't have any problems at all. They did charge a little more since she was in heat. |
Pixie was in heat when she was spayed. They do have the risk of more blood loss tho. Talk to your vet and then decide |
I would contact my vet explaine what happened and have her spayed asap. But, I would pay close attention to what LadyJane, Barney104, Ellie May, Foster Mom and some of the other members say. Some of these people know a great deal about medical questions. YT is a wonderful tool for us to use. Together we have 100s of years of experience. :) |
My cat was spayed when she was in heat with no complications. The clinic where I had her done said it wasnt a big deal to do while they are in heat its a little more complicated if they are pregnant though so I think you need to talk to your vet because your situation is kinda tricky |
