I <3 to run! 1 Attachment(s) So I have a question....I run about 2 miles a day trying to loose my post baby belly even though my son is 3  and I see these girls running with there GIANT dogs like lads and retrievers so I was wondering can you run with you little dog??? I know my Bella is too small but Tibbs is getting bigger he is 6lbs now....So I was just wondering if any of you do or even if you can run with your Yorkie? |
I am sorry but I don't know the answer to your question. But I have a friend who runs and she puts her yorkie in a stroller and pushes it as she runs. They go every morning. BTW my youngest is 14 yrs old and I still have not lost the post baby belly! |
I'm not a runner (back problems) but my old roommate is and she used to take Gatsby running every morning he is 7lbs just run a constant speed and watch him so you know if he is tired also i would recommend not running with a dog under a year (i have no idea how old your Tibbs is) |
I was a athlete who ran about 2-3 miles a nite for about 25 years, before I was injured. I use to take the pups....however, 1 of my two always wanted to stop and smell. So I found myself doing more pit stops than I truly wanted. So I separated the walker and the runner, for different times. The main medical issues I have found that affect our pups are the same that affect us, heat exhaustion, dehydration, injury, etc. And like us humans, always check with your vet to make sure your pup is physically capable of participating in such exercise before starting. Best wishes.... |
I've been unable to get Teddy to jog at a steady pace with me. However, he loves running full speed and taking a break...and so on so what you can do is run sprints with your dog at a park. Sprints will elevate your heart rate more than jogging will AND will help build muscle mass on your legs which will lead to more calorie burning in the long run :) Hope that helps somewhat. ETA: This is just my personal experience with Teddy. All dogs are different :) |
i don't run but i do take long walks around a local lake, i think its about 2-3 miles in total. however, my clover (chihuahua x yorkie) runs around me the entire time! :D i daresay you can run with a small dog as long as you keep an eye on him the first few times to gauge how he finds it! good luck! |
Thanks guys this is really helpful! I Use to run with my son in the stroller but now he is too big and doesn't enjoy it much either.:p I hate going on a run by my self I feel lonley! Ill check with my vet to see if Tibbs is ok to run (He has to get that cast off first lol) and I think Ill wait until he is a little older and Ill have to work on him with leash training....he sits on his but and wont move every time I lacth it... But it's good to know that it kinda works out sometime :D |
