Some dog owners should be arrested!
 

I dropped my daughter off at Micheals today where she works and of course Chloe always comes as the other staff love to give her hugs and cuddle with her. I then went over to PetSmart next door to Micheals. A dog inside a SUV started barking when it saw Chloe. I didn't think much of it at the time.

At trip to PetSmart with Chloe is always at least 45 mins as she has to visit with all the other dogs and sniff everything lol. After getting food and the cutest keychain for me :) we headed back to the car. The same dog was still in the SUV:eek: Let me tell you guys it was HOT here today. No breeze and very high humidity. I started to walk over to the suv when I was approached by a woman who must have seen I was angry and asked how long the dog had been in this vehicle. Needless to say we called the police.

Another woman came over and we asked if she could get water so PetSmart God bless them sent her back with a bowl of water. It brought tears to my eyes to see this poor dog trying to inhale the water. We were petting her and her ears were roasting hot as well as her poor dry nose. All in all the dog was in there for almost an hour and a half.

The police found the owner shopping in Micheals!!!!! SERIOUSLY!!!! Buying crafts and do-dads takes priority over your dogs well being?!?!?!?! I was so angry when this woman walked over the the SUV that I turned heel and walked away. With two police cars there I really didn't want to say something that I shouldn't. I only hope that they gave her a very hefty fine. Even better perhaps any owner found leaving their dog in a car on a hot summer day should be subjected to the same fate.

I don't think they will be removing the dog as it is a pitbull and as they are very difficult to place the risk of being put down would be too high. Also the officer commented with a sigh "oh jez it's a pitbull"

When I went back to Micheals to bring my daughter the drink she asked me to get (two hours earlier) she started to tell me about this horrible woman and her dog. I said I know who do you think called the cops. Her co-worker chuckled and said "your daughter said what to you want to bet it was my Mom that reported her". What can I say, I can't stand to see any animal being abused.

I can't believe that after all of the tragic stories of dogs dying in cars that people still think it's acceptable. My policy is simple, if I can't bring my dogs in I dont bring them with me.

Thank you for getting involved and calling the police. Hopefully this will be a wake-up call for that poor dog's owner and she won't do that again!

Have to say that it was this dog's blessed day as many times the police are busy and cannot respond right away to these calls. It was good of them to actually go into the store to look for the owner. I don't know if there is a fine for leaving a dog in a car but there should be. I'm sure these people would not be so careless about leaving their dog in a car while they are shopping if they thought it might cost them some money.
Thank you for doing something and not just assuming someone else would do it.

yeah nothing makes me madder than that! Last week my husband and I went blueberry picking. When we go out of the car I noticed a poodle left in the car beside ours. I went inside and told the girls in there about the dog. Of course they couldn't do anything. We went to pick berries for about half hour, and I hollered out over the field, "theres a dog up her sweltering in the car. A few minutes later I noticed an older man letting the dog out for a few minutes. He went in to pay and I told him it was too hot to leave his dog in the car. He just ignored me and left. Maybe he will think twice about it next time. But I doubt it! Some people are so stupid and cruel!

Yay for you for reporting these people. It some states - there are laws against leaving your dog in the car in hot weather.

What flippin idiots. I hope they got a HUGE fine.

:mad: I work beside a bar and there are so many dogs that are left in the cars out here I can'l believe it. We have call animal control ( it takes therm for ever to show up ) We have called 911 and are told to call animal control (they don't seem to want anything to do with the bar people ) I have asked them so many times Why do you bring your dog here if you are going to drink and just leave your dog in the car ? They don't even have an answer for me IDIOTS :mad::mad::mad:

Wow, I cannot believe the dog was left out for that long :( I've called before, and they sent an animal control officer. The AC officer ended up calling me back to tell me that the car was gone when he arrived.

I'm glad the police were able to respond so quickly and that you were able to give the poor dog some water. Hopefully this will teach the owner a valuable lesson!

Ugh!! People...people...people:mad::mad: Thanks for saving that dog from anymore torture!! I can only imagine the dog's pain!! I just don't understand how people think it's acceptable. We always bring ours in or don't bring them. If we going in for quick stop, we park in the shade with window and sunroof cracked open. Even with that, we are hesitant to leave them in the car.

I guess your daughter knows her mommy??

When we left for church this morning, it was 115 in our SUV. Can you imagine a dog left for any length of time in this heat. I get so upset there are not even words to discribe how I feel about it. Just like the man with the poodle that said nothing, frankly I don't care how mad anyone gets. If they are stupid enough to leave an animal in a hot car like that, they need to be told. They need the animal took away from them is what I would like for them to start doing. Fine them a really stiff fine and take their dog away. They don't deserve them.

That would make me very angry as well!!! Good for you! I have a silly question....do you think its okay to leave a dog in the care with the doors locked, car and ac still running? Not for 45 min or hour....more like 15 minutes. I have a ford that has the keypad on the outside to unlock the door....

I'm glad things turned out ok this time. I've actually seen this done with a child. My mom called the cops and waited for the person to come out of the store. The child was only about 1 year old and was in the carseat! WTH!!! This was a while back and the person just got a "warning". At least the windows were down. The baby was crying and my mom just went into the car and took the baby out. She was soothing and talking to the baby until the cops and parent showed up. She was so upset about it for a while. I was with her but I was only about 10 years old at the time. :(

You would think that with all the information out there, people would learn, but they never seem to.

I am reminded of the Nationals in Dover DE where some idiot left a dog in a car, in the heat on a show ground with HUNDRED of dog lovers.
He was lucky all they did was break the window to get the dog out after he ignored 3 pages.

The sad thing is, there is a recent report of a police officer that did the same to his K9 partner, and the dog died.

These stories make me so mad I want to bang my head into the wall. Thank God this poor dog was saved and hopefully it scared her a bit that the police have responded to a dog-in-hot-car call and she will be too scared to chance it again for fear of a ticket or something. If the weather were lovely and cool, how can you leave you dog bored to death in a car for so long? Plus there is the chance of stealing a dog. Pit or not, they are still dogs and the right handler can get one out of a car in nothing flat in any one of several ways and not all of them kind.

I honestly have never left the dogs in the car even for a minute. Even if the temperature was comfortable there are still too many risks. Someone could steal the dogs, they could injest something and so on. Not to mention that being trapped in a car would be quite stressful for them. My rule is - if I can't take the dogs with me when I am out of the car I leave them at home where they are safe :)

people leaving dogs in cars will piss me off in a hurry, that is bull s**t, Im glad you called the cops, I would of as well

If you leave a car running here,you will get a hefty fine for leaving the car running. I would be afraid that someone would steal my precious baby from the car.
Last year my husband went into a grocery store for less than 5min. When he returned the stereo from the dash and all tools from the back of his SUV were gone. Im thinking it would take less time to remove a small dog and run with it.

No...it's not ok to leave the pet in the car with the a/c running and the doors lock... because, I have a Ford too, and if you check, I think you'll find that you can't lock the driver door if the engine is running. In addition to that, the engine could quit for any number of reasons, turning the interior into blast furnace. I have a conversion van, and I was hoping I could leave the generator running with the a/c on and leave my babies for just a few minutes. Thank God the first time I tried it , I stayed in the van with them. The generator stalled when the fridge and the a/c came on at once, and quit. My boys would have been dead in 15 minutes in 100 degree heat. I'll NEVER trust any mechanical device to keep them safe in the car. Just leave them at home.
