Weirdness after staying with my parents SO and I went away for 4 days, and Roxie stayed with my parents. My parents aren't exactly dog people, so Roxie's time was mostly divided between her ex-pen and the back yard. Roxie LOVES the yard at my parents house...it's big with lots of room to run and smell things. My mom walks her a lot because she doesn't want her to have an accident in the house or anything. Anyway, we've been home for two days now and she is back to having free reign of the house and all her usual places to hang out, play, and sleep. My mom said Roxie didn't eat very well while we were gone and I chalked it up to her being sad to be away from home. But, now that we're home she still isn't eating like she usually does. Usually she gobbles her food up almost before the bowl can hit the ground. Since we've been back I have had to coax her to eat, or leave the bowl and eventually she saunters over to eat. She also seems to be sleeping more than usual, and isn't in a very playful mood. This isn't the first time we've left her with my parents, and we've even boarded her at the vet's office. It sometimes takes her a day or so to get back into the routine at home, but now we've been home over 48 hours and she still doesn't seem happy to be home. What is going on? Should I be worried? We have to board her in September for 3 days due to a family wedding that's out of the area. I am nervous that she is going to be all weird afterward. :( |
Oh no...I can't offer any advise, but I wanted you to know, sending good vibes for Roxie to get back to her ole' self soon. |
Sometimes when pets don't eat well, caretakers give human food, and pets learn very fast to hold out for human food. People don't always like to admit to doing this, and may say they didn't give any human food, unless you make them feel like it's safe to tell you. This is my guess of what may be happening. Also, it sounds like she did enjoy the trip to your moms, maybe a walk would stimulate her appetite a little? |
Ugh, I hope no one gave her people food. I really stressed to my parents that some people food can be dangerous/deadly, and to just make sure she stuck to the dog food. They don't allow Roxie in their kitchen, so hopefully she didn't have access to people food. |

I hope Roxie is back to herself soon. Maybe it will just take a few more extra day's this time for he rto get back into teh routine. I will certainly keep her in my thoughts. |
All 3 of my Yorkies I've had showed behavioral changes after being away from home for any time at all and I think Tibbe is the worst. He just loses his way when he is away from me and from home and it is up to 2 - 3 days B4 he starts to really resettle in and act like Tibbe. If you are really worried she is sick, run her to the vet, but likely, unless she ate something strange while away or got sick/injured some other way, she is just readjusting. Hope she's ok by tomorrow. :) |
