Anal glands expressed...need suggestions I think my baby needs her anal glands expressed. She started scooting across the floor and her stool is somewhat mushy. She is on heartguard and she really hasn't been outside all summer due to the heat except for the occassional 10 minute walk. Anyway I can't get to the vet until tommorrow because it's closed. Is there anything I can do to alleviate some of the itching and irritation until tommorrow when I go to the vet. Her hair is already shaved and I have been keep her little butt as clean as possible. Any suggestions? Thx |

I normally run to the vet as fast as humanly possible for most things, but I'd bet that it can wait until tomorrow. Perhaps your vet can teach you how to express them yourself? Your baby will most likely be fine until then. |
Except for the occassional scoot she is fine. She's eating normally and being her typical self. However I was doing some research and if is her anal glands, her diet maybe the culprit. She's been on Chicken soup for the dog lover's soul and up until now her stool has been perfect....not to soft and not to hard. Some I am wondering what has changed. She recently discovered cat poop. I have since move the litter box to where she can't get to it but could cat litter and/or cat poop caused her stool to become mushy or maybe I just need to change her food. Oye vey.....so many things to watch out for with these little ones. My cat has never been sick a day in her life (she's 12 yrs old and still kicking) but this little one has me running to the vet even if she looks like something is wrong. And of course there usually is. |
