Story on the news I am watching the 6 oclock news right now and there is a story on dogs. I just started crying when I heard it. There is a town about 20 minutes from here (Joplin) and the population is around 50k well they said at the Joplin Humane Society last year they had over 10,000 dogs go there and about 70 percent of them were put to sleep because nobody adopted them. (they only give the pets 2 weeks to wait for adoption bc there are too many that come in) This is so awful I did not realize how many pets were without loving homes this is so sad and this is where I live I cant imagine how many there are in the bigger cities like NY. I just wish that people would get there pets spayed so that this number would go way down. Just thought I would share. |
That is sad and to think all those dogs had homes at one time. Thats alot of irresponsible pet owners. I dont know how anyone could take a dog or cat to the humaine society. Just sad! |
it is very sad. and unfortunately very common. |

It is estimated over 5 million companion animals were euthanized last year alone. Of this estimate, up to 45% were pedigreed animals. |

There are some breed-oriented rescues that are non-kill but not nearly enough. The SPR rescues as many Bichons as they hear about BUT the other rescues are not as organized. This year there will be even more after the hurricanes and tornados.. |
A lot of the puppymillers in Mo, and other states just dump their dogs at the shelters when they are no longer useful to them. Saves them the trouble, time and money of putting them down their selves. Those are actually the lucky ones, the others die horrible deaths during whelping, or in fights over food, and they are just thrown out even before they are dead. |
