Nutrical I am back with another question. I sure hope Im not getting on all of your nerves by now! I was off on Toby's dates and wanted to say that he will be 12 weeks old on Wednesday, not 14 =S. I don't know how I miscalculated. I was given his dob and kept recieving pics of him at 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 weeks old but never thought any thing when I didn't recieve more. Anyhow, he is 1lb, 4.6 oz and was sent home with nutrical to be given in the am. He is eating GREAT! Do I still need to give him the nutrical? Thanks a million! |
Congratulations on your new puppy! If he's eating well, I wouldn't give him the Nutrical. |
I agree that Nutrical is only for the times when your puppy wont eat. Congratulations on a new pup! |
I agree with the other two posters, nutrical should not be given haphazardly, too much will bring on hypoglycemia instead of preventing it. Nutrical is mainly sugar, and if puppy has an attack of hypoglycemia, they won't want to eat, giving a little sugar like nutrical, can stimulate the appetite, but protein should always follow within 20 minutes of giving nutrical. Read this article and learn the symptoms of hypoglycemia, knowing the symptoms could save your puppies life. Most breeders will not allow a dog under two pounds to leave, and this is a very critical time for you puppy. Make sure food is available all the time, even a 5 minute play period can deplete the puppy’s energy reserves, they don’t have any fat yet, and when this happens, hypoglycemia can result.
