Way to go NJ!!!! We just got back from NJ and in the paper there was an article about a new law about stiffer penalties for people who intentionally kill police dogs or dogs involved in search and rescue. 5 yr minimum prison WITH NO PAROLE and fines up to $15K. The law named for Shultz a police dog who died in the line of duty. Here on yorkie talk we are all animal lovers, passionate about our dogs they are our love, our joy, I am sure other states have such laws to protect, my own CA, you can leave a kid (2legged) in a car but not a dog, so I know it begins but it is never enough, our dogs give so much to us. The last is my personal rant and I'll get off my soap box, but a big thumbs up NJ  |
That is terrific. I am so glad that finally the courts are beginning to pay attention to what happens to abused animals. NJ you are great. |
I think that law should apply to all dogs, not just police dogs,or dogs involved in search and rescue. It's a start, hopefully that law will eventually imply to all dogs, and cat's to for that matter! |

That particular Shultz story brings me to tears. They threw the police dog into oncoming traffic and it was struck several times. Kudos to NJ for taking this first step. ALL dogs are special but police dogs do work very hard in the public interest and I am glad they are getting the extra protection. |
It's a step forward! :D |
