puppy hair is VERY short Hello all, We just purchased our first puppy, an 11 week old female yorkie, that we named Macie-Belle. She has AKC papers, but the vet told me yesterday that he does not feel she is full blooded yorkie. She does not have long hair on her nose or head...in fact it's VERY short. We already love her to pieces!! Do you think its possible her hair will grow out?? |
If she is a yorkie her hair will grow out, did the breeder clip her before you picked her up? do you have any pics? Welcome to YT! |
Welcome to YT!!! Take photos so we can see your new lovely! |
I posted a picture, but I don't know where it went. =( |
When will her hair grow?? 1 Attachment(s) Here she is! |
She is adorable! no expert here but I say she has a lot of yorkie in her, but there may be another breed lurking in there somewhere. Then again, she could just be a really off standard pure-bred yorkie. Have you spoken with your breeder about your doubts? |
It is possible she is a red legs and purebred. Breeding is not merely putting two Yorkes together and getting a litter..you have to use breed quality Yorkies to produce Yorkies who look and behave like the breed. I believe a breeder must breed to the standard to preserve the breed as we know it...but even the best breeder gets pups with improper coat etc...your pups coat looks wiry and the muzzle is not Yorkie..BUT having listed what I see as faults...it will make no matter to you with a spayed pet...enjoy, she will probably be a wonderful companion all her lfie. |
I am calling the breeder today, but I don't want her to think we don't love Macie-Belle. I will be smarter next time, but I have the papers and saw the mom.:( |
hmm her snout is a little long... she looks like she may be mixed... time will only tell as she gets a little older and her hair grows Again she does have a lot of yorkie in her though! her little bow is cute! |
She is soo cute!!! My yorkie's hair was short like that at her age, and now is much longer and shiner!! I think she is a yorkie!! Anyway, she is just so cute and yorkie or not yorkie, she will be a great dog!!:) |

Seeing the parents and papers mean nothing...it is the reputation of the breeder that counts...I could tell you any male and female I had were the parents and falsify AKC papers all day long..but you get referrences and buy from a well known breeder who can show you Yorkies who are bred to the standard. My father was a UK breeder and you should have seen the first Yorkie I bought...I trusted the breeder...but that Yorkie was still a wonderful pet. |
In my opinion she looks like a lot of other 11 week old pet Yorkies. I agree with post # 7 by Yorkie Rose when she said, 'She will probably be a wonderful companion all her life.' Sounds like you are already in love with Macie Belle, and I am so happy for you. Welcome to Yorkie Talk ! |
That makes me feel better and yes we all love her. I hope she stays small and her hair grows. If it does not, even though we love her, I will be sad. |
She does seem like its possible she could have a little something else mixed in there! But, she looks like a sweetie!! Also, I dont know if it matters to you or not, but it may not be too late to get her ears to "stand" by taping them...some people like them floppy, some like them straight up! Yorkies do come in all shapes and sizes, so it is very possible she is full blooded. We have a 5 month old that was a "blue born"...He is almost snow white and has hazel eyes, and I am 100% sure hes a purebred. Regardless, just love her forever, no matter what!!! Oh, and by the way.....Welcome to YT!!!! :) |
I say it's possible she could be pure bred. Pure breed or not she is adorable. My baby is supposedly pure bred but has no papers. I love her to pieces and to me the paper really doesn't matter. I also payed a lot for her but in Hawaii Yorkies are hard to come by. Oh and welcome to YT! :) |
