Iris is peeing and pooping in my new house!!!!

I know that she is just adjusting to the move and all of the changes and that she will get back on track. It's only been a few days. I'm just so frustrated. Will someone please remind me that I need to be more patient.

She is going on walks fine but she's not used to having to hold it until a walk because she had a doggy door at our old place. We've put the potty (UgoDog) in the bathroom but she won't use it yet.

It's mostly early in the morning because she wakes up just before me and she's used to being able to go right away. I can't seem to get up and get her outside fast enough. I guess she will have to go back to sleeping in the crate if this continues. I'm not sure if I should crate Ivan at night too if we have to do that.

We are working on that but it will take a while, maybe even a few months. The yard is not safe for them right now (fence openings are too big, snakes, hawks, coyotes, etc.) so we have to build them some sort of closed in area for the doggy door to open into. Eventually, we hope to have a safe area and a doggy door again. At our old place, the doggy door opened to a covered patio so it was very safe.

Oh yes, she will catch on :) I have to really watch mine or they will still potty in the house. Yorkies many times are a struggle. It will all work out though :) They definitely teach us patience!

Things like moves or anything that results in change can cause them to revert in potty training. I would definitely crate her before she develops bad habits. Hang in there it will get better and you can always vent to us in those times when its not because weve all been there

Maybe go back to "puppy" phase for potty training, either tether her to you (which may not be plausable with all the moving stuff happening) or restrict her roaming room to the bathroom where the potty patch is, the slowly give her more and more freedom?

I agree with restricting free area until she's back on track.

Thanks so much for the advice and understanding! It really helped me to take a breath. With the stress of the move and all, my patience has been pretty thin.

Iris was in her crate last night and there were no potty accidents to wake up to this morning. :D

I should have done this from the start. :doh: She has such a hard time with any changes in her routine and I should have know that the move would be a big adjustment for her. I just love waking up to puppy kisses.

I'm going to watch her like a hawk and keep her in her pen or her crate if I can't. No more free access until she's back on track. We will also need more frequent walks outside too. She still has not used her potty in the bathroom at all but she's going outside. We took her out for a midnight potty last night so she wouldn't be so desperate first thing in the morning.

I'm not sure how to get her to use the indoor potty. She used it at our old place but it was outside on the balcony. We've never trained them to go anywhere in the house. Not sure how to make this transition until we can build them an outdoor area and doggy door at our new place. :scratchhe

Yes you have to go back to training and that can be very frustrating for sure.
I would pick the spot you want to put the pads and keep them confined in a xpen or room till they learn what they need to do. I am sure you kind of know there potty habits and times. This will help. You could just use the spot when it's close to the time of day they go out. Then praise praise and good treats. Good luck

The crating at night and more frequent trips outside is doing the trick. No potty accidents in the new house for the last three days. :D

She still hasn't used the indoor potty. If she won't use it, then I can't reward her for it. I know if I could get her to use it and then give her a really high value treat, she'd catch on pretty quick but she won't use it. I've been waiting as long as I dare when I know she has to go. I put her on her indoor potty and tell her "go potty." She knows this command. But she just looks at me like I'm nuts for asking her to go indoors. I wait and wait and then we just go outside and she goes right away.

I'm really glad she's going outside and not on the carpet now, but it would be great if we could retrain her to use the indoor potty too, especially for when the rainy season starts. She hates to go out in the rain. I'll just keep at it and hope she will get it.

Iris finally used her indoor potty! Yesterday, she peed first thing in the morning when I got her out of her crate. She got lot's of praise and treats. Then, later that day, she pooped on her potty too. I think she's getting the idea. :)

Oh, and they are both finally stating to go potty in the back yard too. :D

Yay for Iris and mom! Change is as hard on them as it is on us. Tell yourself that when you start feeling frustrated. She is showing that she is understanding what you want. She'll catch on in no time! :D

Argh!! So it looks like Iris may have a mild UTI. Not sure which came first, the potty issues or the UTI, but it doesn't seem to be a coincidence to me. Poor little girl. :( We noticed that she's been going A LOT the last day or two and we just happened to be consulting with our holistic vet this afternoon. Iris must have gone 3 times during our 2 1/2 hour appointment so the H. vet tested her and gave us a remedy for her while we wait for the labs to come back. Hopefully she'll be feeling better soon and we can get back to the potty training review. Just a reminder to ALWAYS consider a medical issue if there is a change in potty habits. I just assumed that it was the move, and it may have been, but it also may have been the beginning of the UTI. Or the stress of the move and the changes may have caused the UTI. Who knows...
