Urine stains
 

My little Libby ended up in a cast this spring when in the middle of training. Since she couldn't go outside, she did pretty well on the pad but made mistakes on the carpet. Some, I didn't see right away so they set in. Does anyone know what the best product is to remove these?

She is doing better now, but is stubborn trying to get her trained. Also, she is turning the grass brown. Does this have anything to do with the fact that she is not spayed yet? Her urine is really strong smelling as well.

My other yorkies, over the years were spayed sooner than this, and I didn't notice this problem. Wondering if it is hormones or something.

If her urine smells very strong, it might be a good idea to have a urinalysis done to make sure she does not have an infection. As for the stain, is there an odor at all and what color is your carpet?

To tell you the truth, I don't smell it but my husband says it does. My sniffer isn't the best, allergies.

Good idea to have her checked, but she acts fine. It might be part of her frequent urniation. I want to get her in for her spay anyway. I probably should have done it sooner. She had the baby teeth that had to be taken out but I opted not to have her fixed at that time because she was just too tiny and 1.6 lb and I was just afraid.

The carpet is a light off white tweed. The landing carpet is a med grey tweed look.

I did just purchase at pet smart something called 'simple solution' oxy charged ,gel brush oder and stain remover. I will be trying that today.

We are just getting ready to put our home up for sale. We are not going to replace the carpet but need to get these stains off!!

Frequent urination combined with a strong odor is definitely grounds for getting her into a vet, even if she is acting fine, because you don't want her bladder getting inflamed or crystals forming which could lead to stones. If she is due for her spay anyway, it is usually cheaper to do blood work combined with a urinalysis anyway (at least around here) and you should have pre-anesthetic blood work done.

Now back to your stain - on a light carpet, I would first try this before using the petsmart product. Pour white distilled vinegar on to the spot directly. Then place baking soda on top of each stain and let it dry. Vacuum it up. Check with a urine black light to make sure you got it all after it has dried. If you see further signs of urine, repeat the above. If any white residue remains from the baking soda, you could add a little more white vinegar and use a little brush and a tiny drop of dish soap in water to wash it off.

I wash pee pads and remove all odors and stains using baking soda and vinegar along with detergent on all kinds of colors without any extra fading (fabrics fade with washing, but I have not seen fading more with this process).

Good luck, and if you are concerned, try an area that is inconspicuous first. This shouldn't harm the rug and it will not chemically set the stain. The product with "oxy" in it is usually hydrogen peroxide based and is a bleaching agent and could fade your carpet some.

You can buy a backlight kit for under $20 at petsmart to find the hidden stains that cause the smells.

I've got a light off white berber in my house. I still find that Natures miracle is the best for getting out the stains and smells coupled with a good shampoo (bissel makes an odor fighting one) to get the entire carpet clean. If you can, go over the carpet a final time without shampoo and just use a cup or two of white vinegar in the water.

I WILL have clean carpets again!! ;):D Bless my little pee pee Libby.... I don't think she had even been outside but a few times when I got her at 6 mos old. Then when she was just getting the hang of it, my DH stepped on her heel and fractured it. He felt soooo bad. She was jumping off the couch at the same time he was getting out of his recliner. She had been so excited because I had just come in from work. Surgery and a long healing process during a very long wet thaw and rainy spring, and the soft cast that could NOT get wet. She was pretty good with the pad but will just squat if a pad isn't near! She is getting better now but it has been a long road and I don't like to yell or spank. She is so sweet and doesn't mean to have such bad manners!! :D

i Use the simple solution as well. Morgan does go outside but then he will also come back in and pee on the floor. He does wake us up 2 x a night to go out so he isn't messing in his crate. He is 13 week old so I guess I will have to have patience.:thumbup:

A pet store 1-block from me said that Urine-Off is the BEST stuff.....!? They carried a LOT of stuff, including Nature's Miracle...which is what I have.
