i feel like a bad mommy! A friend of my moms gave me ozzy in january. They told us he was 3, and that he had all his shots. They didnt give us any papers on him and im not really sure if hes had his shots yet and i need to go and take him to the vet. I also dont know when his birthday is....for all i know he could not even be 3, or if he was 3 he could be 4 now! i wish there was a way to find out :( |
That is really sad that someone passed on a dog with no records. :( However, people rescue dogs of the street with no history all the time- your vet will be able to give you a better indication of what to do about shots and such. Good Luck. |
Don't feel like a bad mommy! A lot of times with regimes and rescues you don't get all that info. Just make up a day to celebrate his birthday on so he can still have his own day :) |
Jada and Bogie are both rehomes from the same breeder. I stupidly didn't get their papers either. I celebrate their gotcha day instead of their birthday:) |
a vet could do antibody test for the shots. its a simple blood test smeared on the paper :) as for age, i think the vet can make an estimate but can't tell you the dog's birthday or etc. |
You could never be a bad mommy and rehome a sweetie like Ozzie. Shots - see what the vet recommends. The vet will be happy to work with you to make sure she is up to date on everything and will understand. Is there anyway for to ask you mom's friend who their vet was to check for shots? Also, if he had doggie tags maybe they might be able to give you an idea on idea. Birthday - I like the idea of celebrating the day you got him. I have a lot of friends with rescue dogs and they all got estimates of age from their vets. When there are no records, the humane society here re-ups the vaccinations before putting them up for adoption. Ozzie is a lucky little man. Best of luck. |
The fact it is bothering you not knowing your baby's birthday or medical records shows that you are a very loving mommy. I agree with the above poster's idea about celebrating the day your baby came to live with you. You have missed birthday! Thats not fair. I really like the idea because I was wondering about Eleanor's birthday. Someone else was born that day who is gone but could never be forgotten. I have to celebrate it on a different day. This is such a beautiful solition to my dilemma as well |

I'm glad Ozzie has a new mom who worries about things like that. He's a lucky little guy. |

It is just a blessing that he has a mommy that loves him.I am sure he won't care what day, just clebrate everyday. |
Rescues and rehomes without a medical history are usually given a series of two DHPs, rabies, sometimes lepto, and sometimes bordatella if adults. It's okay that you don't have the records, but your pup needs to be seen to get this taken care of on Monday. If he was never vaccinated before, he is at a great deal of risk right now. |
You can also ask your mom's friend which vet she used. Her vet could fax your vet the records. Who knows, it may even have his birthday in the file. |
You are the best mommy! You saved his life! |
