new puppy Hi, I am new to this forum. I have a new yorkie puppy. She is 4 months old. Do they ever truly get house trained. Sometimes she is stubborn, do any of you have that problem. I love her to pieces but I wish she wasn't so stubborn sometimes. Won't come to me when asked unless I have treat. |
Welcome :D Yes yorkies can be VERY stubborn, but with the right training u can put that right! Have you got pics? What is your Yorkies name? Did you reasearch the breed before u got your yorkie? :D xxxx |
It will take time to train your puppy, but you need to start right away. We've had Ozzy for a month and at first the challenges seemed too much but already he's come a long way (he's 4 months old, too). He hasn't had an accident in the house in 7 days! Read lots, have patience. It gets better, but it does take a lot of effort. I recommend the book "How to Raise the Perfect Dog" by Cesar Millan. It's really helpful for learning about how your dog thinks and grows and acts. He has some useful training techniques, too. Are you training your pup for indoor or outdoor potty? Ozzy doesn't know "come" yet either, but we haven't trained him for that yet. Right now we're concerned with potty training consistency and "sit". I think "come" will be the next thing we tackle. Enjoy your new best friend. It'll all be worth it in the end. |
Hi, thanks for your reply! yes I did. I have wanted a yorkie for 10 years. My husband finally decided it was okay to get one. He thought it would be too much trouble. But she is delightful and we both love her so much. I don't have any pictures as yet. But as soon as I do I will put them on. How long have you been a yorkie owner? |
Hi, We are seniors also. I have been working very hard with Chloe. We have had her 3 weeks and I think she is doing pretty well. I don't like the fact that she eats her poop sometimes. Only early morning in her bed. I have seen lots of ideas on here for getting rid of that. Do you have that problem? We love Ceasar Milan. I will get that book. Thanks |
Me again, She has learned sit, lay down, up, speak and almost roll over. |
She sounds like a smart little girl, Feed her pineapple for the poop eating it makes the poop taste bad to them |
Hi my new baby is named Chloe. Yes I did research the breed. I have wanted one for ten years but my husband wasn't on board with it. Now he loves her as much as me. I have pee pads in her bed area and she used those plus outside as well. She is doing pretty well as long as I watch her like a hawk! |

Welcome, I have 4 yorkies andstill have isssues with one of them with poop eating, I just have to be faster than him. Nothing I fed him worked. they are all mostly potty trained, my 2 feamales prefer the indoor potty pads and are 100% with that. boys have been a little more difficult. |
morgan is 12 weeks old and he will go potty outside but he stills goes in the house/ will not use the puppy pads unless they are in his playpen// he will wakw us up at night if he has to potty. he sleeps in a crate in my room |
Welcome! Chloe is still a baby, it will take time and patience. Stay on top of it by being consistent daily that way you will be setting her up to succeed and praise, praise, praise. Most won't come to you everytime, let alone as a baby, time will improve that somewhat, LOL. No punishment and lots of patience and you will get there. Good Luck! Zhoie is our 1st yorkie too, she is 2.5 yrs. |
:welcome4: I believe Webster lists stubborn as the first definition for Yorkies :) WOW, you have done well with training so far for only having her a short period of time. I have to say my favorite command is "leave it". I never used it before our training class this past summer but I have since found it to be the best word in the world!!! Congrats on your new baby girl and good luck with the potty training. It just takes persistence and NEVER EVER EVER letting her out of your site while loose in the house. Hopefully someone will paste the link on potty training for you as I don't know how to do that but it has wonderful information! |
Mina is almost 7months and "come" is an on and off thing. She is getting it and has figured out that I actually do want her when I say "come". Now if she would just walk a tiny bit faster. She pretty much has sit, down, working on come being more consistant, she gets "drop it" probably because she hears it 40 times a day and off (to not jump on people). Next is stay, sit pretty (sitting up),rollover and bounce up or down (in the car, chair,,etc). Mommies work is never done. |
right now my baby has kennel cough. The vet asked me if she had been to any obedience classes. Yes I started she had 2 classes then got sick. She is not going now until she gets better. She picked it up somewhere, I didn't know anything about it. She is on penicillin, coughs about three times a day. I hate it, I guess it takes quite a while to get over. Anyone have any comments. Thanks |
