Scratching shoudlers blade area
 
Zhoie has started scratching at her should blades.

We use IOD Primerose shampoo & conditioner. She doesn't have fleas. I apply her Frontline Plus monthly & had her fenced in backyard treated the beginning of season...so that's not it. Hmmmm:confused:

She hasn't broken the skin and not even a reddish area. Any ideas or suggestions? Should I be using like a oatmeal shampoo or something that helps with itching?

She probably has allergies. Why don't you ask your vet if you can use Benadryl or another OTC medicine?

I would not be opposed to trying an oatmeal shampoo but I'd make my own to avoid any perfumes or dyes. Here's the one I've done. Mix 50/50 ground oats (run through coffee grinder or food processor) and warm water. Mix well and apply to the skin. Follow with a rinse of white distilled vinegar. I've used this on Daisy years ago when she used to scratch herself raw.

I also meant to say you can leave the oatmeal on for a little bit while she is in the tub. This may sound kind of mean, but, when I used to do it with Daisy, I left her in the tub (empty) with the glass doors shut for 20 mins so she could not escape and get oatmeal all over.

Not mean, you are just a good mommy and that's what it took.

Ok..dumb question, but is this considered a bath? Do I shampoo her first or do this in between her weekly bath:confused:

If you want to use it as a shampoo in place of her regular shampoo, I'd add about 3 drops of Dr. Bronner's castile soap (mild baby version) to it. This is just what I would do. If she is not rashed up, you could go with regular shampoo, just add it to the mix.

Has she a microchip in that area that is bothering her for some reason?

Is she scratching all the time? It is not connected to the frontline application is it? I only wonder because of the location she is scratching. Otherwise it is most likely an allergy like Cathy said. Chloe has a mild seasonal allergy- she scratches a lot during the spring/summer.

She is microchipped, but she scratches both sides at her lower shoulder blade area, right behind her front legs.

No, not all the time. I don't think it is related to Frontline, she won't get it again until the 1st of the month.

The pattern I believe she is following is....she doesn't scratch for about 3-4 days after her bath, (gets on every Sat or Sun) but a couple days before bath time she will start it again.
