Thanks for the welcome. I appreciate it. I want to be a good mom to Marlee.......I have experience with Pomeranians , Chihuahuas, & Doxies but not much with the Yorkie breed. She is adjusting really well. For her third night here she has really settled in. Hope to learn alot from all of you.........Hugs, Wanda |

Welcome! I hope you have as much fun here as we do! |
Welcome to you and Marlee. She's a cutie! Love the name. Hope you enjoy it here. |
My Marlee came from a breeder. She is not very playful which I don't mind but I want her to be happy enough to enjoy her life to the fullest. How do you encourage play when they don't seem to understand what you atr trying to teach them? She will act like she wants to play but just doesn't engage. SHe is just so sweet. I just want her to be happy go lucky. Appreciate any suggestions...Thanks, Wanda |
WELCOME!! Hope you make lots of friends here. Be sure to look through the library and the group section. There is a TX group and we had a meetup at the beginning of June. Another is hopfully in the works for this fall. |
She may have never learned to play while she was living with the breeder. Very unfortunate, but that does not mean your new baby is not happy. The love and attention you give her in her new home will make her very happy. With my previous Yorkie Poppy, we went thru hundreds of toys over her life to find the ones she wanted play with. She was a picky little sweetie - didn't like the squeak, the texture, etc. So it may take a little while to find a toy that she will like. Playing with these little guys can be many different ways in my mind. While most people associate playing in the traditional sense of with a toy or romping, you can do many other things. You can "work" play by hiding a few treat and having her go find them. Let her see when you are hiding the treats and then tell her to go get them. If you have other dogs or have friends with small dogs, she can learn to play by spending time with other dogs. My pups play together a lot, but when I first got them and they started to play with me they were so different. Max was always very playful and rough and tumble. Abby was a little more hesitant and shy. I started with her by just taping my hand gently on the floor and then moving towards her little paws. She uses her tiny paw to hold my hand down - lol. Regardless of how she learns to play, she will be happy and loved because you are giving her a real home. Keep up posted on how she is going. :) |
Thanks for all the welcomes & info...Ya'll are great.......... |
