should i stop my yorkie from humping ? My dog is only 4 months old, but she's already started to hump. she was humping on the stuff animal i got her, should i stop her or should i leave her? |
Personally I have always tried to stop the behavior in my dogs- I don't want them to think that humping anything and everything is okay because I have encountered strange dogs that will hump anyone or any dog who walks by and I find that to be bad behavior. When they were puppies and started doing it I would just say "eh eh" and redirect them to something else. Armani will still sometimes start doing it to another dog in the house if he is playing really rough and I just say enough and he stops. |
my momo did it to another dog and i put a stop to it I mean if i was the mommy to the other dog i wouldnt like it. my grandmother does have a female dog who humps a stuffed pig and thats it is that bad?? she doesnt do it to anything or any other dogs but is that still bad? |
stop it |
Pippa had a pink bear she humped a few times when she was little, i just took the teddy off her and told her 'no'. she really like that teddy and soon stopped. I don't think it's very good behavior. |
Bogie my male has never humped, Jada my female has tried to hump Bogie a few times. I just picked her up and told her no a few times, she hasn't done it since and that has been about a year ago. It might just be my personal opinion, but it is a behavior that I don't like. |
My 2 year old Tessie has always done this and still does. She has never humped anything but the small dog beds. She likes to throw them around playing. My vet said she is trying to prove dominence, She is suppose to be the alpha dog but I have 3 other dogs, 2 neutered males and 1 spayed female. Tessie was spayed at 9 months. she has never tried to hump any other object, person or dog, so I leave her alone. |
This behavior can become a favorite past time...spay when old enough and discourage it. |
I am not sure if it is a dominance thing or not, but I always try to put a stop to it with redirection. If for no other reason that to make sure they have good behavior when around other dogs. |
We've never stopped ours from humping bc it doesn't hurt anyone, they seem to get some comfort from it, and it seems a natural need they're fulfilling. They have never sought to hump anything other than their lover dog (well, ahem, Pfeiffer does hop on her donut bed and has private moments with it ). These kinds of urges are natural in all living creatures...I personally don't believe in stopping it or punishing it - I think it's easy for them to be quite appropriate about the behavior. It's no different, imo, than managing our own natural inclinations in an appropriate manner. I support that lovin' feeling in both dogs and humans :p! |

Jackson has a special bear he likes to hump and I've never discouraged it. He never humps people or other dogs or anything. If he wants some special time with his stuffed friend while in the privacy of our own home... I tell him go for it! LOL |
My baby has humped a neck pillow of ours since he was very young. It's not a bad behavior unless they are humping YOU. Inanimate objects are fine. Yes it seems to be a comfort thing for the dog. There is no harm in allowing that behavior to continue. In the dog world, humping is a way to show dominance over the other animal. It's not a sexual behavior. |
