Help with doing business outside! Hi, I haven't been on in a while. My little Libby fractured her heel and had a soft cast on for a couple months after surgery. Since it was wet with snow, then rain, she had to stay in and use pads. Now, she will go outside then come in and use the pad! I can't seem to train her. Any ideas on what I can possibly do? I NEED to get her trained. She just turned 1 the middle of May. I pray it isn't too late! |
HI! Ok, my first question is, are you crate training!? If yes, here is my suggestion...if she is sleeping in the crate at night, as soon as you get up in the morning, naturally your are going to take her directly outside...put a few treats in your pocket for rewarding her when she does what she is supposed to do....when your dog is in the act of doing something, not before, not after, but DURING, you can come up with a catch phrase...for Fiona we say " take a squat" and she will pee instantly, or " go poopy" and she goes...... as soon as they are doing what they are doing, keep repeating it over and over again, and make sure everyone in the house is using the same phrase..... if you are outside for 10 min and they do one over the other, come back inside, put back in the crate for another 5-10 min, and try again.... hopefully this will help you out.... GOOD LUCK! :aimeeyork |
Perhaps a trainer can help you to train your dog to be housebroken. Good luck! |
Thank you, I have tried some with the crate. Part of the problem is that I didn't get her until she was nearly 7 mos old and she had only used a pad at that time. She also has no problem going pee in her crate before letting me know she needs out in the morning. She usually informs me after she's gone. Little stinker. I never thought of a trainer. Maybe that is the answer, I really don't know where to get one, but I could check with the vet or petsmart perhaps. Thank you |
Try gradually moving the pad to the outside, but close to the door, then move to grassy area you want her to use. That worked for Roxy & has worked for many other dogs too. It's worth a shot. Good luck! |
