ear bends to the side Hello everyone! i searched and searched the forum but didn't find anything specific to my puppy's situation. she will be 4 months old on the 12th. I've had her for a month now. her hears were floppy when i got her but i taped them and after 3 days they stood up nicely. she looked so cute. well about a week ago one ear began flopping over to the side. not forward or back, but to the side. it bends at a crease which is closer to the bottom of the ear. i would post pics but her ears are currently taped. my concern is that the crease will not allow her ear to stand up correctly. it looks kinda funny. so i was wondering if anyone ever heard of or seen a situation where the ear bends at a crease to the side and did it stand straight up again? i know it can flop due to teething but i assumed the ears would flop forward. not to the side. |
She's just propably loosing her babyteeth and getting her adult ones ! won't be worried, have her ears taped for about a week they should be up again then, 3 days is a little bit short time, though the ears are standing by themselfs keep the tape a few days longer when they start to stand on their own so they wont just go down again :) My breeder reccomanded me to give my yorkie puppymilk once a day when I taped his ears , I dont remember why but it was something about the ears, some vitamins in the milk that he needed when he was teething. |

Some people think adding calcium will help ears stand up, so they suggest milk, cheese, yogurt etc.. I had one puppy who had floppy ears. So we taped her ears and had good results. |
I had to tape one of Cupcake's ears when I was concerned that she was 4 months old and had an ear flop back down. It took about a week and now she is a little over 6 months and not gone back down since. I know your concern and I too was looking all over this forum for the same problem. Just tape it back up and leave it for a week. |
I'm gonna try giving her cottage cheese. She's definitely teething cause she's chewing on everything in site. She's already ruined a pair of my daughters sandals she left laying around. I just find it odd that her ear is bending to the side that way. Thanks for responding guys. |
So I tapped her ears for a week. Her ear bent back to the side almost right away. I left the tape out for a day then taped it back up. Took the tape out today and ear just bent right back down. I'm going to wait to tape it. She has a sore on her ear and I want that to heal. Not to sure if I will tape again. I don't want to hurt her. It seems as if she makes an effort to pick it up it does go up but if she's relaxed it bends over. Even if it is up it still has a sting crease near the bottom of the ear and doesn't stand as erect as the other ear which is perfect. Needless to say, I'm getting frustrated. I still love my puppy. I just don't think this ear looks cute at all. I haven't gotten around to gutting any cottage cheese. I'm going to the store tomorrow to get some. Hopefully that will be what helps. Cause it doesn't seem like the tape is helping. I guess I'm just venting. Only time will tell. She's 4.5 months old now. |
i honestly believe these babies have full control of their ears, Ziggy's ears were floppy when i got him so i shaved him a little. they pricked but sometimes one or both will flop or bend, i'v decided to leave them, i like them either way, and clearly he knows what kinda ears he wants, lol.. Good luck with your baby tho |
Hi, My little baby is almost 4 mos. old. She has been sick, but all well now. Her left ear is laying down now also. I heard being on penicillin will make it do that. She is off it now. How on earth do you take the ears? |

if your mean tape the ears you can search the forums for info on it. ive found a bunch of useful info. my baby girl's ears are looking much better. the bent one is staying up consistently (although is does lean to the side sometimes). The "good" ear is drooping at times but I'm sure it has to do with teething. I've been taping them and giving her a bit of cottage cheese every other day. Now to focus on the other issues. Like her jumping out of her pen or peeing on my poor shih tzu's bed all the time. |
So I finally got her ears to stand. It took a lot of taping and patience. But it worked. I also gave her a A teaspoon of cottage cheese a dew times a week and kept them shaved and trimmed down. http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z...1/c013a3be.jpg |
