 Omg I am in the same boat you are!! I have a 4 yo male and I am at wits end just like you!!! Honestly I just started from stage 1 all over again! He only has the half of the house so I can watch him. I watch him and take him out about every 1/2 hour. During the day when I am at work he is in his pack n play. ( he will hold his pee and poo while in there) I give him a little water and some food just in case. At night he is in his crate to sleep. That is how I am doing it, honestly you just have to watch Zip 24/7 like he is a puppy! Yesterday went wonderful, we had no accidents! There will be good and bad days, just try to watch him and take him out to go pee and poo and treat him when he does. Hang in there!! It will get better, I HOPE! |
With Brandi after 3 yrs, it still mostly hit (about 90%) or miss. The miss is usually when I give her a fresh pad.....really weird. When I switch out her potty pad, she will not take the first pee on her potty pad. She will pee around it but not on it. After she gets out the first pee, then she uses her pad like she is supposed to. I'd really like to k now why she does that. Also make sure your little one is not sick or anything. If nothing has changed in your household but his behavior has change, I would make sure he's not getting sick. I know when Brandi used to get urinary tract infections, even though I couldn't see blood in her urine, she would stop using the potty pad and would pee anywhere. |
Hey Mary. Is it pee, poop, or both? If it's just pee, was he cleared by the vet for a UTI, etc.? Does he do it when you're home too or just when you aren't home? I know with Ellie if I can't take her out about every two hours, then she has to be held or wear a diaper or she has no problem going in the house. It's either that or she is crated (no problem going in there either, but easier to clean up). A lot of times I think Ellie just doesn't understand how to ask to go out (which wouldn't apply to Zip wince he was trained). When she is crated, she wants to gets to get out quickly (separation anxiety). We are doing better with that though. If it's nothing medical, it could be that he just doesn't feel like holding it/asking to go out (Yorkies are stubborn!). However, if he is looking for attention that he isn't getting during that time, I'd look at separation anxiety (the solution to that is "not" picking him up - it's building up his confidence to be independent). |
