What is the fascination with cat litter all of a sudden? Brandi over the last few days has been getting in the cat litter and I think eating the cat poo. How do I know this? Well two reasons, first I got home from work and there was cat poo (from the cat I assumed)covered in cat litter on my pillow.....WHERE I SLEEP. Second she comes running up to me wanting kisses and I smell cat litter on her breath. I'm not sure on how to stop it. I can't close the door where the litter box is located (the laundry room) because I don't want the cat to start pottying all over the house. I'm just a little curious as to why she has started eating cat litter and how to stop it. I haven't change the cat litter, I always get the same brand of cat litter. I don't think Brandi is sick. She's acting normal, good appetite and stool. The cat's diet hasn't change, she's been eating the same thing for years. The cat is also acting normally....being canterkorous as ever (she's really a grouchy old lady in disguise) so I don't think she's sick either. Anyone have any suggestions on how to stop this before it makes her sick? I don't know how harmful cat poo and litter can be to dogs but surely over time it can't be good either. |
My Oliver LOVES catsicles too. I put the litter box up high where the cat can still get to it, but Oliver can't reach it. YUCK!!!! |
Ha ha! Sorry, I had to laugh at the image of you discovering litter-covered poo on your pillow. If it's any consolation, Thor threw up in my bed the other day. Is it possible she just recently discovered the cat box goodies? It's very common for dogs to eat cat poo, because it has a lot of protein in it. I don't have a cat, but I think most people deal with it by putting the litter box up higher where the cat can get to, but the dog can't. |
Jada loves cat poo...ewww. My son's cat Max is with us now and during the summer months he loves to stay on our screen porch and watch the birds and squirrels playing in the yard. We keep his litter box out there with him. In the winter and when he is in the house I keep it in the spare bedroom inside a small x-pen along with his food and water. He can easily get to it, but Jada and Bogie can't get in to it:D |
Levi loves cat poop too. :eek: We don't have a cat, but we do have an annoying neighbor that lets her cat roam around alone and poop wherever it pleases outdoors. We are on constant cat poop watching duty when we're outside. Gross. I like the suggestion about moving the cat's litter box to where the cat can reach it but the Yorkie can't. I'd be concerned about your pup ingesting too much cat litter. |
Well Brandi and I had a long talk. She promised to stay out of the cat litter just like she promised not to pee anywhere but her potty pad.......yeah right :p But just in case she doesn't keep her promise, I think I'll get one of those litter boxes that has a lid on it and position it so only the cat can get in it. Unfortunately there's no place high I can put it. Not sure why after all this time she decides cat poo was fine dining. But I do think she is getting bored with her own food. I've been thinking about switching but I've been hesitant since what I am feeding her now gives her perfect stool. Everything else always gives her loose stools. |
