Good Luck! Let us know how it goes!! :) |
Good Luck |
I will! It's AAHA recommended and I'm nervous that they're going to judge me when I tell them where I got Gizmo. Isn't that sad? |

I never had to tell my vet where I got Riley.... They never asked. ?? |
Oh! I feel for you. It's so tough starting with a new vet. I started ZoE out with a new vet I had no history with, after a 3 year gap in pets and a house move. It's taken me the entire time I've had her to build any trust with him & his recommendations. Thankfully, he's not disappointed yet, in fact, I'm really happy with him & his staff are all amazing. Best of luck of you & Giz :) |

Last time they asked is because they said something along the lines of it gives them a better grasp on what to look for with regards to medical problems if they know the dog's background. |
They won't care where you got him. :) I live close to you and know many vets here. If you can't find somebody you like, just PM. |

Thank you so much! |
You're welcome. We went through four before finding somebody that I am comfortable touching my dog. ;) |
Hope the vet visit went well. My vets in the past have never asked where I got my dogs. As long as your dog has a great home now (which he does!) they will not care where you got him. I took my new canine kiddies to a new vet and really like him. When we got for the last booster, we are meeting his partner (which I have only heard good things about). Best wishes. |
Have you tried Dr Wilson, He is a really good vet. I had been to a couple in my area, one gave prednisone to my pregnant female, one took 3 vet techs to get blood from a 5 lb female to do a CBC and Brucellosis charged me for both but only did the Brucellosis, one is the vet my husband takes our Pom to and they complained that they had to do a fecal on one of my pups because I forgot the stool sample at home and gave the shots in the hip . Since then I have been going to DR. Wilson and have no issues with them, they are nice people and they are very knowledgeable about Yorkies and other small dogs. Oh I should also mention the 3 vet techs to get the blood was because the first 2 didn't know what they were doing My girl is very laidback. |
Vet went okay. Gizmo is 4.12 which is more then when he was neutered (he was 4.08 then). Anywho, the vet was nice. However, is it terrible that I judged her when I told her about bulley sticks and she didn't know what they were? And the judgement continued when she told me she had her dog on Iams, then Science Diet. I know, I'm terrible. |
The thing that I figured out about Drs of any kind is, they only know what they have been taught. I figured this out when I was having children and I went through 3 OBs and finally decided that I liked my midwives. This does not mean that there aren't vets that dont continue to educate themselves, but I believe that the numbers of those that do are small. I share with my vet any new information that I learn and actually pick his brain for information too. So if you like the personality of the new vet, look at it as an opertunity to build a great relationship with your babies Dr. |
Food choice and knowledge of chews are important, but not nearly as important as many other things. Ellie's vet used to feed and still recommends Iams although she has moved to more holistic brands. I know fantastic vets who feed Purina, etc. Also, most seem to have an idea of what bully sticks are, but they aren't used as widely as Greenies, rawhide, etc., so some just don't. And some would rather they weren't given at all. |
I'm a fan of AAHA hospitals and that's where I go. |

Good luck and Best wishes. I recently changed vets because ours retired. I am still looking for one I feel comfortable with. :( |
