Loves to Ride in the Car Moses loves to ride in the car! He is a far cry from our Lab Bruno, who would pant, whine and pace in the back seat. The only problem is he wants to be right next to me while I am driving. I have looked at the console car seats, but don't think my console is wide enough for that car seat. I remember reading a few comments on car seats and am wondering about the kind that hooks over the back of the seat, or one that is sort of like a booster seat so he can see out. You guys are the pros! What do you use? |
I use a Pet Gear booster car seat in the back seat of my car. ZoE likes riding in it because it boosts her up so she can see out the windows. It's just big enough for her to lay down & sleep in on long trips too. I talked to a lady at the vet whose pomeranian was killed during an accident while riding in a console mounted car seat (and her daughter in the front passenger seat was severely injured), when the airbags deployed in the crash. Since hearing about that, I will only put ZoE in the back seat in any vehicle. |
Our van has high seats/low windows so they can see out fine with no help. I use seatbelt harnesses, they clip right into the seatbelts, and keeps them all safe so I can concentrate on driving. And , yes, backseat only! Even if you have the option to turn off the front passenger airbag, in an accident it may still be triggered to inflate. |
Wow i just purchased the booster seat today. I never thought about how the airbag could hurt my baby;( Of course i tried it this afternoon for a short ride and Secret didn't seem to like it but he's use to sitting in my lap. I don't mind using it in the back seat but i can only put it behind me. How can i watch him?!? :S I don't know what to do now. |

My older dog used to sleep soundly on my lap, but I needed to do the safest thing for him... now he seems to enjoy looking out the windows. |
I am a big fan of snoozer seats. I have one for Callie, bought one for my mom for her yorkie when she rescued him and then bought the big one for when we are taking them places together. Callie absolutely loves hers as soon as the car door is open she jumps in the car and runs to her car seat and jumps in and sits and waits all this in seconds before i can pick her up to put her in. |

OH My Gosh! How adorable is that picture of ZoE in her seat??? Where did you get the booster seat and where did you get that adorable harness?? |
Levi loves car rides too. :) We had a Snoozer booster seat and love it. It buckles in, and then he is harnessed to the seat. He loves to look out the window, or curl up and take a nap. I have Levi's seat in my back passenger seat as well...so he can supervise my driving and I can sneak a peek at that cute face. |
I just ordered the Pet Gear Booster seat...hope I like it! No, I hope HE likes it! It will be here next week! I am excited. It makes me so nervous when I take him to and from daycare each week! :animal36 |
I just went through trying to figure out what I wanted to do for Mina. She will be riding in the front or back seat (still working on that) with a harness (there are some that are actually crash tested by Bergen) and a tether. I may at a later date get a lookout booster. I liked the lookout more than the petgear. If I read correctly the lookout teathers the dog to the seatbelt of the car and the petgear tether is sewn into the cover of the booster. |
I use the carseat that straps over the seat. My boys love it, and it is wide enough for the two of them. I got one after a police officer told me about a car wreck that happened, and they could not get aid to the driver because the dogs felt they needed to be on guard duty. I know how possessive of me my boys can be so they are in their car seat. They also like it because they can see out all of the windows. |
