Going Crazy! I am seriously ready to POP! I can not get Peanut potty trained. We moved into our new house and I thought that it would be easy to train him, being that he loves to lift his leg outside! I took the pads away and bought some belly bands. I started to leave the bands on and just take him out every half hour and tell him to go pee. He will usually do it. Sometimes he will just pee in his bands and not even let me know he has to go outside. The other night without letting me know he just went poo on my bathroom rug and I stepped in it!! I am so frustrated with him! I do not understand why this is so hard for him! I don’t get it! Am I doing something wrong..?? HELP!! |
Maybe start completely over and confine him to one room, just like you would with a puppy. Put a two litter bottle of water in the middle of a peepad for him to lift his leg on (bc he's older). Take him out for walks after meals, playtime, and naps, reward him with treats and praise. Walk him until he does his 'business'. |
Ohhhhh...is that how you get them to lift the leg on the pad by putting something in the middle of it. Because my Gizmo is almost 5 now and although his potty pad is in my personal restroom in front of the shower door he chooses to lift his leg at the leg of an office chair I have in my room. So what I did was put a potty pad underneath the legs of the chair and he does go there and nver goes on the other pad....It is kind of tough, I mean he goes outside as well but here in Texas it has been so very hot like in the 100's so I have not been taking him out in the daytime, just in the evenings. How long have you been trying? I agree with Kathy, it's like starting all over when you change their normal routine. He's still going to need the potty pads for a while until he transitions. This might sound silly, but do you ever ask him if he needs to potty? I do that with Kaji. If he needs to go he'll run to the door, spins and whines until I get there. I still give him the pee pee command once outside. If he doesn't, he just looks at me like I'm crazy. Since younger starting over, time to treat him when he pottier outside only. Make it something super special. |
I'm sorry Peanut is giving you a hard time. I am sorry you stepped in his poop too. I hope it was not barefoot :eek: |
Are you trying to transition him from the pee pads to outdoors? Or is he having accidents either way? Was he doing poorly at your old place, or are the potty accidents only since you have moved? Poor Peanut, and poor you too. I know this must be frustrating for you both. |
I forgot to add, set a schedule that you can stick with 7 days a week. This will help him get use to going outside and he'll even be able to predict when his next potty break is. |
kjc- Our house is pretty much blocked off for him, We are mostly in the kitchen-living room. I am able to see him if he is wating by the back door. DvlshAngel985- LOL 4 YEARS!! He was doing really good for a long time, ( on pads) then I watched my friends yorkies and thats when he started to be bad! Yes I ask him if he has to go potty, and he does the Kaji dance!! It has been going "better" we have good and bad days. Schedule? Like when I take him outside? 107barney- Thank you! He is very lucky he is my lil baby and as I am frusrated, he is still my sweet little baby! Yes I was bare foot!!! :thumbdown Ha!! kdhawks- Well, ya pretty much. He kinda goes on the pad, and goes outside. Of course he likes to go outside better. We have a pad down right by the back door. I notice he still goes pee on his pad, but he will also go outside, and he will wait by the door when he has to go, or he will come get me "sometimes". |
yes a schedule of when you take him out. Like, you decide to take him out at 7 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 6pm, and 11 pm. <---That's the schedule Kaji and I were on when he first came home. After a while, he knew what time it was and would alert me that it was potty time. Same as he now alerts my dad to his nightly snack which he gets everyday at 9 pm. |
We watch for the "sign" from Moses. He will pace, bite and be obnoxious when he needs to go. I ask him "do you need to go potty?". I won't open the door until he tells me by barking. We have been able to leave him for up to 3 hours and he's done just fine. |
