New Joplin Adoption Wow it has been a long time since I came to visit here - life has been so crazy!! My DH is in Joplin working and he is going to go and adopt a yorkie tommorrow. They have approximately 800 pets without homes after the tornado. The little girl we are looking at was injured in the horrific tornado and is now blind in one eye and they reflect that she has bilateral luxating patella's that 'may' require surgery sometime in the future. They actually have a few yorkie's and/or yorkie mixes but we are a bit attached to the special needs girl and feel she may need our help more than others - besides her having tugged so hard at our heart strings. I plan to put her on our Petplan insurance and was just curious if the patella situation would be deemed a diagnosis and thus, a pre-existing condition. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance and I hope all of you and the beautiful furbabies are doing well! Zoey is great and is looking forward to having a sister :) |
Congrats to you on your new addition!! Bless you for taking the one that needs extra attention. Is there a link to the ones that need adopted? |

Joplin Humane Society - Welcome They first show the special needs furbabies and then if you scroll down you will see all of the other numerous furbabies needing homes. There are so many, they have not been able to group them into breed types. My DH says that they are expecting many people there this weekend for special adoption rates (I think it is under $50). We really were not so concerned about the adoption cost as much as we so want these precious furbabies who have suffered and lost so much, to have new loving homes. Another kind member posted more information regarding this weekend's adoption in a different thread (just search Joplin to find it). |
It is heartbreaking. Lots of dogs and cats. Can you imagine how they must feel? |

We missed out on this adoption :( They were suppose to have gotten my DH in early but he had last minute meetings and so did his contact there - that pushed him too late to do that. By the time he got in there after waiting over 5 hrs - all of the potential small ones that we could adopt were gone. So glad however, that so many precious furbabies have new homes and we are glad that the special needs Yorkie will get the special care and love she deserves. |

I am so sorry that you did not get her. But glad to hear many are adopted. I looked last night and could only find one Yorkie on their site. But lots and lots of large dogs. |
