Do your yorkies bark at themselves? ZoE is now 6 months old and within the past week or so, has started barking when she sees her reflection. I have an oval mirror on a stand in my bedroom and when it's tipped just slightly, she can see herself in it and will bark like crazy. She also barks at her reflection in the window at night, so I have to make sure the drapes/blinds all get closed at dusk. Today, she's discovered she can see her reflection in the glass cover to the electric fireplace in my living room and won't stop barking at it...and she's got a horribly sharp ear-offending bark...not a cute little yap. Anyone else's dog do this? If so, was there a way you got them to stop, other than covering up the reflecting item, or is that my only option? |
When Max was a pup, he barked at his reflection in the sliding glass door at night. He grew out of it. Neither of my boys liked looking at their own reflection in the mirror, but they stopped reacting to themselves after I repeatedly held them up to the mirror and touched their paw to it, reassuring them that they were looking at themselves. |
When Sammy was a baby he used to bark at his reflection in the door of the dishwasher. I used to ask him, where's the puppy in the dishwasher? And he would go crazy barking! |
Gidget used to do it when I first got her (18 mos). She would try to play w her image and then would start barking at herself. She's eventually grown out of it and doesn't bother w her own image anymore. |
Princess still does this at a 1 1/2 yrs. We use 2 entrance doors, one less frequently where the mailboxes are. On the side of that door are those little windows that go on the sides of the doorway. She barks like crazy at it, day or night she can still see herself. When we're outside she'll be walking fine then catch a glimpse & jump back a foot like "oh, shoot!", barking like a maniac. |
Allie does. Yesterday I was laying on the bed and the bathroom light was on, she saw her shadow on the dresser and growled and barked at it. Crazy dog! |
Well, I tried taking her up to the glass of the fireplace so she could see herself up close and touch the glass. You would have thought I was trying to put her paw in a real fire, by her reaction. It made me feel horrible. For now, I've cut up a brown grocery bag and placed it over the glass. I plan on changing the living room around so the light doesn't reflect on the fireplace so much...but it's gonna have to wait a few weeks, cos I've got a washer & dryer sitting in my living room, while I'm building a laundry closet in the hallway. |

Camden catches her reflection in the fireplace glass, and we have an entertainment center that has two glass doors. She growls at the "dog" she sees in both. She will jump down and walk to the sides and try to get behind the center to find the dog intruder! It's hilarious! |
