Indoor or Outdoor potty training? What do you do? |
Outdoor, on harness & leash only though! |
Mine has a doggy door and she is trained to go outside. |
Depends on your lifestyle and needs. We do both outdoors and piddle pads. Works very well for us. |
we rescued a male and he will go potty outside, but, he will still poo in his bed! i know it is because the people that had him, did NO training whatsoever and he was forced to stay in his bed for hours as a pup w/o going out or anything.... i found out they put a pad in his bed and he would rip it to shreds and mess on it! H E L P, I have done the leash training, so he will go while on the leash, and he will go w/o, but, sometimes, perhaps once or twice a week, he will mess in his bed! I even changed from the wire cage style to a much smaller pet taxi style thinking it would help, hubby is furious that he won't learn not to mess in his bed, as our english lab has never gone in her bed nor in the house..... what to do?! |
Outdoor. |
Does it really matter? They go where they want, when they want, and not a darn thing you can do about it! Actually, we are almost there with Basil going outside. Caper is pad trained, but have 2 unneutered males is no fun......until the day they go in for the snip snip here. ...... |

Indoor on the potty patch. We live next door to woods with all kinds of wild animals and association won't allow a fence in our backyard. It's kind of nice when it is storming or in the middle of a blizzard since Macy is scared of thunder. |
Outdoor and we almost have down the indoor too on potty pads! But if it were up to them they would prefer to go outside. |
Indoor and outdoor! Best of both worlds. Bell trained for outside and litterbox for inside  It all boils down to personal preference I guess. I like to know mine don't have to hold it if they have to go when Im not home |
We do both outdoors and piddle pads inside a litterbox. |
We do both. It's nice not having to worry if I am running late in getting home from work. |
Indoor pad trained. I love the convenience due to my irregular work hours. I also like that as long as I have a pee pad with me, she has a place to go potty no matter where we are; friend's home, my daughter's apartment, my son's dorm room, etc. |
Indoor pee pad trained :) Love it! First time I haven't trained to outside. |
Outdoor |
Toto is trained to wee wee pads but also likes to go outside too and act like a "big girl". It's really great when we are traveling because we won't allow her to go where other dogs go ... just show her a pad and she's on it! ;) |
My girls prefer the potty pads and the boys will go outside or use the potty pads. I use the washable pads, |
Bear uses indoor washable pee pads but he will go outside if we go for a walk. |
I did both with Poppy. It worked out really well. Between the excessive heat and the monsoon rains we get, there were times she just did not want to go outside. With Abby and Max, we are working on just the potty pads. It has been between since I got them 106-110 and that would be way to hot for their little feet. They do like to go outside in the enclosed patio so I got a potty pad holder so I can put a pad out there without it blowing around. (Abby has already figured out how hit the blinds with her paws to let me know she wants to go outside.) I loved how easy it was with Poppy when I traveled and took her with me. Whether it was a friends house or a hotel, all I had to do was put down a pad, snap my fingers and say go potty, and she would squat and go. Then she always knew where she could go. Worked out great. |
How do you train to use pee pads? I have a 9 month old and he won't even use the pee pad, he just goes where he wants!! I keep him contained in my laundry room when im gone but he prefers to tinkle on the floor...next to the pee pad...?! It is very frustrating for me. How do I teach him to use the pee pad? He prefers to tear them up!! Please help!! Thanks!!! |
My situation has always made it much easier to potty train indoors because I worked and didn't think it was fair to ask a little dog to wait all day to go outside. It has always worked great. I'm retired now, but still don't want to be going outside at all hours in all kinds of weather, so indoor training suits me and my furkids. Jeanette |
Bentley goes on the potty pad, but he also goes outside when we take him outside on a leash. Best of both worlds I guess. Right now, he is all inside because he just got the big snip snip. |
