I usually manage to laugh when someone makes a (stupid) remark about one of my dogs. How about someone looking at my two beautiful Bichons, properly groomed and within standard, and wanting to argue with me that they are poodles? I guess it depends on the "spirit" of the comment. If the person is just not informed, I respond gently. If they are being critical and confrontational, look out! Jeanette |
People ask me if Lucy is 'teacup' all the time. She's 5 lbs. I usually just say 'Well, there's really no such thing as a teacup; she's just a small yorkie'. I usually don't go any further than that. But my cousin argued with me for an hour (she has no dogs) about whether a 'teacup yorkie' is a real breed of it's own I don't like the term teacup because I do think it is used as a marketing ploy. I hear it used with every breed one can think of now! Teacup Morkie; Teacup Maltese; teacup Shih tzu; teacup blah blah blah. It's a dog people! Not something that sits on a saucer. Drives me crazy. |
I use to give the speech... now I just whisper.. oooh don't say teacup it makes you look like you don't know what your talking about and you will be embarrassed if someone who knows about dogs (yorkies ) hears you. so far it works |

I have never corrected anyone when they used the teacup word to describe their dog or mine. It would feel so strange to correct a total stranger when they were just trying to carry on a nice, pleasant conversation about my/their dog. |

Bar scene...just tell them the name has been changed to shot glass yorkies. When asked if Copper is a teacup, I just say no, he is standard. He weighs 4 lbs. on a good day. I don't even bother with the explanation. It seems rude to point out their ignorance. But inside, I know they know nothing about yorkies.:D |
