Favorite thing to do with your Yorkie? I take Trixie out for long walks in the woods, play fetch and tug of war. But I feel like there are more things that we can do to play together. What is your favorite thing to do together? Any games? |
Obie hasn't quite gotten fetch. It is more like, get it and run!! But we like to play get the momma! I run and he chases! It gives him lots of exercise! Going out right now is hard, cause none of his clothes fit yet. He is just too tiny. And our weather is COLD!! So we run alot in the house! This is my favorite game, for now! |
My dogs like to play "Ill get you" I run after them and try to get them then they run after me and try to get me. Chachi gets all excited!!!! |
I like to go on nice long walks with Princess. She's so funny, she has to stop and look at everything. :D |
Here's a fun one, and a good training exercise: Go for a walk with a friend, have the friend hold onto your dog while you tell her to 'stay.' Start by staying within eyesight and then calling her with an animated "come!" as your accomplice lets go. Reward her with a hug and a treat. Then you can go farther, hide behind trees, wait longer. But always the animated "come" or "Trixie, come, come, come" followed by the treat. Eventually, you'll be able to do it without the accomplice. The idea is making running to you the most fun thing Trixie does in life. That way, when you call her for another reason, she's going to LOVE running to you. |
1 Attachment(s) One more 'game.' I call it poor-man's agility. Line up some obstacles in a line in the yard. A rake, a shovel, a log. Just 3-4 items. Leash your dog and give her some command that you like. I use 'jump'. Then lead her over the obstacles. Reward her with a treat at the end. Eventually, you'd like to be able to do this as a sit-stay trick, where you can go to the other side of the line of obstacles and call her. But any way you do it is fun and good exercise. Here's a pic of how we do it. |
Alaska Yorkie, these are great suggestions! You are not only sliding some obedience training and agility skills into your dog's day, you are making it loads of FUN! Wosie loves to play fetch, and would do it for hours on end! At 5 months we have now gotten to the stage where all I have to do is say "wanna play?" and she runs really fast to get the toy she wants and we play fetch until I get tired! She even brings it back to me, and lets it go! (most of the time, lol) If she seems reluctant to drop the toy, I just let her play with it for a while, and then remind her that I am here too by repeating "wanna play?" Then she will bring it over to me and let me take it. I'd say any game you play with your yorkie is a great game. The key is do play with them. They aren't ornaments, even though they are beautiful, and the exercise is wonderful for their bodies and minds, not to mention the wonderful fact that play strengthens the bond with their human friends. Enjoy! |
I love playing tag with Tigger. I'll jump right in front of his face, and he'll bark and I'll bark then I get on my hands and knees and do the same thing with my hands then I get up and run away from him and he chases me then I run after him. This goes on for two or more minutes. I love playing fetch with him (he's five months and learned at three months what fetch was, mommas smart boy.) and I LOVE LOVE LOVE cuddling with him. |

Playing fetch! But my alltime favorite is napping together. No matter where I move ,he moves right along with me and makes sure that his butt is touching me or his head lol Genie |
I like playing with Chloe in bed in the morning :) She is so hyper and full of energy that she acts so nutty and its funny :D |

Woooohooo! He's Flying! Hahahah What a great picture! Francie |
Sleep together! hehehe! I love when he snuggles close to me and gives me kisses in the morning. Besides that, I love telling Stomper to stress and he puts his back legs all the way back and his front legs forward. It is the cutiest! I also love when i get home from work and call him my snarl face boy! He opens his mouth, shows his teeth and makes a funny noise because he is so happy to see me! Besides that...playing ball is so much fine. We have a tennis ball and through it to him and he will kick it back to us! So cute. Can yorkies be any more darling??!!!! |

Tucker's favorite thing to do is tug of war. He LOVES it. MY favorite thing is to snuggle in bed in the morning. That is the only time he will hold still long enough for some loving and the only time he will let me rub his belly. Once he wakes up he realizes he's not being "cool" and jumps off of the bed. |
Hide and seek. I would hide Lacey's rawhide bone under a pillow or something. And she would go crazy trying to get it. She would always manage to get it though. Sometimes I would put it on the coffee table and she would still manage to get it. She was so smart that she would find a way to maneuver her paws in a way to get it. |
My Mickeys fav thing to do is grab some thing of mine and stand and wait for me to chase him. Thats his fav game he likes when I go running or crawling after him and he darts in and out from behind the couch chairs and beds. His little stub just wags like crazy you can just see the excitment in his face.So I guess this is my fav game with him . Minnie loves to play fetch she always brings it back to me. So this is our fav game. |
I love when he is actully mello and I can snuggle with him and cuddle with him without him biteing me. |
I love running around with open field with my (friend's) yorkie!! I just love it.. to see his happy happy face! |
My favorite thing to do with Joey is obedience classes! He does extremely well and makes me soooo PROUD! |
Normally our favorite activity is walking. However now that it is 14 degrees and snowing...no amout of winter coats and boots will convince Syd to go outside. So now...our favorite activity is napping on the couch under a fleece blanket. Actually I really treasure our snuggle time! |
My favorite thing to do is walking too. We have a canal that is beautiful that we take walks by. Now its too cold for that and my favorite thing to do is to snuggle on my heated blanket together. Both dogs love to lay on this blanket. |
My favorite thing would be chasing them outside, play fetch and my all time favorite would be taking them to the dog park....they love to run and play with all the other dogs, at least most of the time, and they act so grown up!!! |
Honestly, nap time! lol He snuggles so close to me under the covers and then when he gets too hot, he crawls out and lays on my pillow right behind my head, b/c he can't not touch me! lol it's too cute! Especially when he wakes up and yawns and stretches his whole body out. |
Well TJ just loves to snuggle! Snuggle snuggle snuggle!!! Riley likes to play hide and seek, "chase", and keep away (have two or more people throw something back and forth to keep away from him; surprisingly, he LOVES it) |

All three of my girls love going for walks...whether it is one on one with mom or all together, we have a good time! Denise |
I would have to say Bedtime is my favorite, he is not much of a cuddler, ( only when he wants, which is usually the worst time for me) But in bed, he snuggles right into my tummy nook and thats where he stays, and if I roll over he runs around to get right in on the other side,, and I LOVE to hear him snoring! He's so peaceful then. His favorite would be going for a long walk Im sure. |
Games and How to Play Them With Your Yorkie Games to Play With Your Yorkshire Terrier Puppy Fun games to play with your new friend! Your goal in early training is to get your Yorkie to like you. Generally, Yorkies like people. Once you have gained your dog’s trust and love, then training becomes infinitely easier. Keep your puppy’s kindergarten positive and fun. Puppy games are a great way to entertain your puppy and yourself, while subliminally teaching lessons in the course of having fun. Start with a game plan and a pocketful of tasty dog treats. Keep your games short so you don’t push his attention span beyond normal puppy limits or tire him out too much. Puppy Catch-Me This game helps teach the come command. With two people sitting on the floor about 6 to 8 feet apart, one person holds and pets the pup while the other calls him: “Puppy, puppy, come!” in a happy voice. When the pup comes running, reward him with big hugs and give a tasty treat. Repeat the game back and forth several times… don’t overdo it. You can add a ball or toy and toss it back and forth for the puppy to retrieve. When he picks it up, praise and hug some more, give him a goodie to release the toy, then toss it back to person number two. Repeat as described. Hide n Seek This is another game that teaches the come exercise. Play this game outdoors in your yard or other confined safe area. When the pup is distracted, hide behind a tree or bush. Peek out to see when he discovers you are gone and comes running back to find you (trust me, he will do that). As soon as he gets close, come out, squat down with arms outstretched and call him: “Puppy, come!” This is also an excellent bonding technique and teaches the puppy to depend on you. Where’s Your Toy? Start by placing one of his favorite toys in plain sight. Ask your puppy “Where’s your toy?” and let him take it. Repeat several times. Then place your puppy safely outside the room and place the toy where only part of it shows. Bring him back and ask the same question. Praise highly when he finds it. Repeat several times. Finally, conceal the toy completely and let your puppy sniff it out. Trust his nose… he will find his toy. Yorkie puppies love to have fun with their people. Games are excellent teaching aids, and one of the best ways to say “I love you” to your puppy. |
