Sick of TICKS! so... I'm laying in bed, and up my arm crawls a tick. I get up, flush it, and come back to bed. Not 20 minutes later, another, so I get up, flush it, and come back to bed. Just happened again. I love frontline plus, it's working for the dogs, starting to think I need to wear it too! Ticks are creeeeepy! I can be asleep and feel them crawling, ick! :sickie: |
Have you treated your house? I know there are the powders and bombs, but I think its best to have a professional come in and spray and get it taken care of. A family I worked with had 4 dogs and 3 cats and awful ticks. I worked as a nurse there for a year and the problem never went away, the ticks lay eggs in the carpet where they can't be vacuumed up, and they carry some nasty diseases. I got a bite on my leg that has left a large scar. I hope that the tick problem gets better, I know how frustrating it can be! |
I would have the house treated or least go get a bomb from PetsMart. I've only see two ticks on Troy. 1 for each year we've had him and luckily each time I caught them early. I hate them too and being from inner city Detroit I never saw one until moving to Georgia. I don't know what I'd do if one was crawling on me. |
Oh, dear, I hope you get rid of the ticks quickly! They can carry Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, so you need to get them out of the house. Jeanette |
i know someone who once had a bad infestation of ticks in there house. i think they got something from there veteranarian to spray around. it took awhile but eventually they did get rid of them. You definitely need to treat the house!!! |
Gracie does not have problems with ticks but our cats do. Last year was hot and dry and we live in a wooded area that has some tall grass in certain areas. The ticks love that tall grass. I bought Frontline plus for the cats but they would still come home with live engorged ticks on them. No fleas, just ticks. I told the vet that the Frontline was not killing the ticks and she just said it was a very bad year for ticks. I don't walk Gracie where the ticks live but I always check her when we get home anyway. I have to check each cat that comes in the house and go over them with a flea comb. Since we started having so much rain this spring we have hardly had any ticks. I guess they prefer dryer conditions. Only the deer tick carries the Rocky Mountain spotted fever and we don't have them in this area but I can't stand the creepy, nasty things. Have never had a problem with them before last year. I wish they would invent something that will actually kill them. |
OMG, I hate them, too! My boyfriend is a environmental biologist/inspector and works in the field, so everyday he comes home and we have to check his clothes (which I mind) and his body (which I don't :D) from head to toe! He almost always has at least one, and they just freak me out! I make him burn the little suckers, then flush them down the toilet. Ever since I found out that they are members of the arachnid family, they creep me out even more. I HATE spiders, and these are just blood-sucking ones! I have the heebie jeebies just thinking about them! EEEEEWWWWWW!!!!!!:eek: |
Ticks are SO gross! Hate them. We get them bad in MD. Jut as an FYI, Frontline Plus doesn't necessarily repel ticks, so one could attach to your dogs, then the Frontline would make the tick fall off your dog, and onto your bed possibly... but it probably would die quickly anyways from the meds. In the summer, we have to use K9 Advantix as Frontline just does not work in the hot months! Jackson for Lymes while on Frontline and was treated quickly with antibiotics, so he now tests negative for lymes. |
We finally solved our tick problem here by staying out of certain areas on our walks. Also, when I work under the trees in our yard, I change clothes and shower immediately when I come in the house. We have the outside perimeter of our house sprayed by an exterminator once a month, and we spray our yard for pests. If you find a tick, don't flush it. Drown it in rubbing alcohol to make sure it doesn't come back. |

What part of Oklahoma are you in? I'm in the Tulsa area and I haven't seen a tick in a few years. They were much worse when I lived in McAlester (SE OK). |

I am just starting to see ticks here as well. I freak when one is on me or Rosie!! Frontline has never done much for us. We too use Advantix. Someone told me Frontline was good for fleas but Advantix works better for both fleas and ticks. Don't know how true it is but Advantix seems to work better for Rosie! |
Frontline for ticks did not work for my cats and they are the ones that would pick up ticks because they go through the areas where they are. Advantage does not make a tick pesticide for cats so at the moment there is nothing I know of to treat them. With the Frontline for cats they would still come in with fully engorged ticks on them and when I would pull them off they were still alive and kicking. Does anyone know of a tick medication for cats besides Frontline? |

Is there Advantix for cats? It is the same company as Advantage but has the tick meds in it. |
