Just got back from ER DH gave the babies a pressed raw hide, the long, narrow ones to chew on tonite. I noticed Dudley swallowing funny. Just like over and over again. It scared me to death because I thought he was choking, even though I didn't see anything in his throat. Took him in after he threw up, thinking what on earth could this be. I thought maybe even a piece of the treat was stuck in his throat. They took x-rays and found nothing in his throat or tummy and the vet said they thought the treat and scraped his throat causing an ulser. Has anyone ever heard of this?? I am taking him in to our vet in the morning to get some meds to coat his throat. DH was already in bed and I was so scared I drove to the ER and it was the first time I have drove in 2yrs. recovering from surgeries. I guess we will go to the ends of the earth for our babies. Right? So glad it was not a blockage or anything. |
I'm glad it wasn't anything too serious. Sorry you had to drive him but I'm sure that was the least of your worries. These babies would have us run through fire if we had to. You're a good yorkie mama.:) |
Glad to hear nothing too serious. |
So glad your baby is ok. I don't like any kind or shape of rawhyde as they can be very dangerous to our babies. They can cause a blockage if swallowed whole after the dog chews on it & softens it up they can chip of before softened & cut the intestines , the dig can choke on them & just too many things to mention. You are very lucky nothing worse happened. I hope your baby will be like new quickly. |
Oh, I agree completely. I never buy rawhide and have bought the CEW (I think they are called) from the vet. But, they do not like them. THese were the long, rounded pressed rawhide and I just thought maybe they could chew them better. Dudley is so little we always break anything in half for him anyway, but, I think in this case he might not have gone through this if we had of left it like it was and it would have been too big for him to try to swallow all at once. He is real territoral about his food, treats and everything and so sometimes he just gulps it down. He is so tiny they could not believe he was 2 at the ER. Little wart. LIke to have scared me to death. |
Raw hides are off limits at our house. Steach our little dachshund almost died after chewing one till it was soft and swallowing it hole. I was cooking dinner looked down at him and saw he was in distress. He was taking both front paws clawing at his mouth and his little yes were bulging. I grabbed him and looked in his mouth and way in the back I saw something so I stuck my fingers way down and pulled out the entire raw hide that had unfolded and was stuck in his throat. He actually gasped for air when I got it out. It was so nasty never again I don't buy any kind! |
Sorry you had such a scare tonight- although it is nice to see someone who went to the vet when they thought something was wrong, instead of making excuses about why they couldn't get there! I hope your little baby starts to feel better soon. I don't allow the dogs to chew on any type of rawhides, they make me nervous. |
Wow, glad that your little one is going to be okay. We give bullys here and they get taken away when they get down to about 2". We had a scare one night where maggie may swallowed a piece and was making an awful crying sound. Luckily she settled down but did not chew her bully for awhile. |
