To wash or not to wash How soon can you wash your puppy? Jasmine is nine weeks old but quite small. I would like to wash her as having just come from a litter she smells a bit but I will be happy to wait if there is any risk to her health. I have heard such horror stories about people making puppies ill. If I was to wash her I would make 100% sure she was warm and dry very very quickly had have her sitting in front of a big log fire. |
Go right ahead and wash her. Use a mild shampoo( for pups or babies) rinse well and keep water out of ears and nose. I start bathing pups as soon as they are old enough to start scrambling around and get into stuff. Mine have many baths before they leave here, so are very used to the whole procedure. As long as you keep her warm and dry well, she'll be just fine. |
Keeping her warm is the key! Sounds like you have a good plan there. Use a blow dryer on warm until she is 100% dry and then leave her in the house for a couple of hours if you can so she doesn't get a chill. Are you combing her everyday? Its important to start now, even if she doesn't have tangles yet, just so she gets used to it. Good luck! |
Yes I'm combing her, actually twice a day - morning and evening. There is nothing worse than a dog getting matted tangled hair. I hate to see it on other peoples pets becuse they must be so uncomfortable |
So how do you wash their heads/faces well? I've given my Pixie one bath (only had her for a week now), but I was so afraid to get soap in her eyes/ears/nose that I didn't wash her head! And she needs her face washed... How do you do it? Can you tell I've never owned a dog before??? :) |
OOOH i have a question too! How often can you bath your baby? I have only bathed Obie once, I have had him a week. No where on the puppy care sheet does it say how often to bath. I thought once a week was good, but would do it more often if it didn't cause problems. We LOVE baths around here! |
You really shouldnt bathe more than once a week it could dry your babys skin out. I bathe My dogs every two weeks. |
Thanks, I am one of those people who would live in a bath tub. So it is helpful to hear it isn't so good for him to bathed regularly. I appreciate the help! |
