Maddie cries all the time! How do I comfort her? I realize that this is going to be tough. Maddie is only six weeks old and she is still looking for that boob full of milk... She cries all the time unless I am holding her and I can't hold her all the time cause of Tucker and my children. If I put her in her crate she cries. Poor Tucker is pooped from her crying all night. She shakes alot and right now I have her wrapped in a blanket in my lap.. I am asking for advice on what to do to comfort her and how long to expect her to cry all the time.. Tucker came home at 8wks and I never had any problem with him pottying in his crate or crying. Is there that big of a difference in 6wks and 8wks? |
There actually is a very big difference in a six week old pup and an eight week old pup. That is very young to be away from mom and sibblings. I don't have any advice but hopefully someone else will post. |
I think there are things you can buy to put in their bed or crate with them that is supposed to remind them or their mommy. I forgot what it's called though. Maybe someone else will remember :) |
Maybe you could put her in one of those front carriers some of the time so you would still have your hands free but she could be close to you. It will probably we a rough couple of weeks but everyday she is getting a little older! Hang in there! |
Years ago I had a fancy breed young rabbit that was injured as a nestling. My father bred rabbits at that time and we expected the tiny baby to die any time. But he hung on and hung on until he was weened. Then the other bunnies started getting so much bigger and reinjuring his initial injury, so I took him out of the cage to a separate one so he could die in peace. But he didn't die and I noticed that whenever he knew I was there he seemed more peaceful. I had a jumper with a big patch pocket right in the middle of the chest. So I wore that jumper for days (washing it at night) with him in the pocket for hours at a time. Later he was happy to be in a basket lined with a towel that I carried from room to room. He never soiled my pocket or his basket; he would wait until I put him in his litter box. He lived and grew to have a magnificent long coat (he was a Jersey Wooly -- like a mini angora) and a pixy sort of personality. Loved him to pieces. So I'm thinking the front carrier idea or a variation on it might just work for your baby. Sometimes they just need our presence. |

Lacey came to us at 6 weeks old. We kept an alarm clock in her bed along with a blanket. I don't remember if she cried or not. That was 13 years ago. She did not have a crate. Slept in her doggy bed in the laundry room until we got her paper trained. Once she was paper trained, she started taking turns sleeping with all of us. First my parents, then she would make it to my room in the middle of the night. |
Griffin is just 7 weeks today and I got him at 6weeks, but I've been pretty lucky with him. He cries some, and shakes once in a while but he's basically a hearty little guy! He sleeps through the night until around 4:30 when he has to go potty and then he goes right back in his crate and sleeps. I keep his crate in my bedroom at night and if he starts to whine I just say "Quiet!" and he does! At work he sometimes wants up on my desk and sits between my arms as I type for a few minutes and gets a "Mommy Fix" and then I put him back down and he'll play or go into his kennel and sleep. Now, he does hate being in the car! He cries and shakes the entire time. Gracie (my 1 year old Yorkie) doesn't like riding in the car either. She starts panting and breathing hard and her tongue hangs out the entire time. I don't think I can ever take her on a trip of any substance because she'll hyperventilate! |
Amanda, I am new so I definitely don't have enough information. Did something happen to mom? I was just curious, he must be tiny? I would definitely try the heating pad thing, we have a pad you warm in the microwvae that slips into a pocket made for Obies blankie. He curls right up (after about a minute of crying) and goes to sleep. There is 7 weeks difference, so maybe it won't help. But I do know he needs to be kept warm still. Otherwise he will not go to sleep. I will keep Maddie and you in my prayers. |
There is a very big difference in a six week old puppy and an eight week old puppy. I would make sure she is warm. Use a ticking clock, it really works. Is she eating OK? Maybe she wants milk, you might want to get a can of puppy milk for her. She's really young, I bet she misses her brothers & sisters. Please keep us posted. |
