New Yorkie Mommy I'm a new yorkie Mommy again! I need help I have a 18 month old and now a 10 week old and the 18 month old has become so insecure does not want to be around the new puppy I don't think he will hurt him but he acts as if he is afraid. We show him lots of love as we always have yesterday for the first time he didn't want to go bye , bye that has always been exciting for him all we had to say is lets go. I actually had to pick him up to go with my husband. The puppy just wants to play with him, I put them in the kennel together and the older one just stood up the entire time:rolleyes: |
Congratulations on the new addition to your family. Some dogs need time to adjust to such a change, especially to a puppy who has a lot to learn. Put your older boy first for everything: greet him first, groom him first, and so on. Make sure he has a place to escape the puppy if he wants to, like a couch or anywhere the puppy can't reach. Don't try to force a relationship. Let the boys establish relations on their own terms. Of course, step in if either one is in danger. You can encourage relations and reassure your older one by keeping his routine plus doing activities together, like trick training or walking or having a treat at the same time. |
I wouldn't force them to share a kennel, especially if it belonged originally to the older one. Give them each their own kennel, side by side. A kennel or bed are very personal things, territory. They probably will eventually share (as my boys do), but to reassure your older boy, don't give his things over to the puppy or force him to share. |
