what type of puppy food When we brought Peanut home we put her on the same food her breeder had her on. (Iams puppy food for toy breeds) well she doesn't like it anymore. She is always into our new 8 week old yellow labs puppy chow. My question is what is the best choice puppy food for my 11 month old girl peanut? |
There is no one perfect food- there are so many variables, it is really about what works for your individual puppy which can take a lot of trial and error. With that being said, generally, if you can find it in the grocery store it is not a good food. PetCo now carries a lot of the holistic, all natural foods- Natural Balance, Wellness, Solid Gold, Halo, Blue Buffalo, etc. They are all decent brands. The brands I prefer are usually found in specialty pet stores, GO!/ NOW!, Nature's Variety, FROMM. |
Merrick Puppy Plate. Can get it at Petco or Online. Both of the Spice boys love it. |
i feed my papillion merricks and plan to feed my new yorkie baby Morgan the puppy plate when he comes home mid july |
My dogs have always done well on Nature's Variety. I feed them the Nature's Variety Prairie formulas. It is an all life stages food and the kibble is small and easy for even our Yorkies and Maltese to eat when they were puppies. Nature's Variety just started making a puppy food and a large breed puppy food too. I buy my Nature's Variety Prairie kibble online in 30 lb bags from PetCareRX.com. They have the lowest price I've seen (a lot lower than the local places) and you get free shipping on all orders over $35. My son feeds his Morkie Blue Buffalo Puppy kibble and she does very well on that. It's also a good food and is available from PetSmart and Petco. |
I give my puppy, Wellness dry food (for puppy), and leave some available at all time. And give her wellness wet food or Innova wet 4 times a day. She likes that!!:) |
Thank you all. I will go and look at these special dog foods. |
It seems like Roxy was about that age when she decided to get a little finicky. We went through a period of eating a brand real well for a week or two, then no more. After switching brands a few times, she finally decided she wanted to stick to Wellness, which is where we started. Had her on Wellness puppy at first, now she is on Wellness Small Breed. She does very well on it. She still has some finicky times, but have found that adding a little canned food to the dry food, she's happy. I always do this on days when she goes to daycare. She burns sooo much energy there that I want to make sure she has food in her tummy. If she doesn't eat, she doesn't get to go. It's her favorite place to go. I freeze rest of can in ice cube trays to use on other days. Hope you can figure out the puzzle soon. |
Angel really likes the new Blue Buffalo Small Breed Puppy. I would put it on your list of ones to try :) |
Gizmo was on a few different things. Avoderm, then Innova (which I found out was sold to P & G so he's finishing his old bag up now) and now I'm going to be rotating him on Canidae and Taste of the Wild because he gets bored of food really quick. |

I never used a puppy food when mine were small. We have always used Natural Balance. They have done very well on it and its an all age food. |
Marty is on Fromm for puppies. It comes in a pink bag and is only $11 bucks for a 5 pound bag! If your dog doesn't like it, you can even return it for a full refund! |
Also a lot of Fromm dealers participate in the frequent buyer program so after you buy 12 bags you get the 13th for free!!! Oh, and the vet also told me that once we switch him over to the adult form we can switch between flavors and it won't upset his stomach which I thought was really awesome! |
