Girl verse Boy? Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and just placed a deposit on a female shorkie. The breeder favors males and feels they're more affectionate but I have my heart set on a girl. She's 5 weeks old and sooooo adorable and looks very yorkie. Is there a difference in gender?:):aimeeyork |
I always tell people to pick the puppy they like best..sex is not a factor...temperment and how they react to you is the best way. Most breeders push the males first as they are harder to sell as a rule...I never found it that way..neutered males are wonderful pets...but many people perfer females to own..I only have girls now. |
I have two boys that are extremely affectionate and attached to my husband and myself. They are also playful and fun. I have never had a female yorkie, but I've heard they can be a bit more independent. I think it actually more depends on the individual dog, rather than gender. Either way, both genders are great choices! Congratulations on a soon to be baby! |
I have heard boys are more affecionate...I have 2 boys and they LOVE to cuddle!! I originally was going to get Bevos sister, but I fell in love with him...I wouldnt trade my boys for the world!!! |
A neutered male Yorkie does make the best pet..but some people have their heart set on a female and regret not getting one...but it is rarely because the male was not a good companion...usually it is because they see all the pretty clothes for girls...LOL |
I have one of each. For me, it is true that the male has been more affectionate, but that could be due to differences in their individual personalities. I say pick which ever one your heart tells you to. Just go in with your eyes open and keep in mind that at 5 weeks, they are already displaying their personality type. Good luck. BTW- keep in mind that most experts agree that toy breeds should be kept with their mothers for a minimum of 12 weeks to learn proper social skills. Longer may be necessary if the pup is on the extremely small side. Check out the links in the library section for more info on bringing home a new puppy. |
I have a boy and a girl. They are each special in their own way. Jada is more independent, wants to sit on your lap when she wants it. She plays a little bit, but not a lot. Bogie is non stop playing and he is a true cuddle bug. I have never had small dogs before these two so I don't know if it is a difference in sex or just their personalities. They were also older when we got them as rehomes. Jada was 2.5 and a retired breeder and Bogie was 9 months and was to be a stud and got to big for the breeder's females. |
:confused:Thanks for your input. I hope I made the right choice. I love to cuddle with my maltese whose a super maltese--weighing 15 pounds and I've had my heart set on a little girl. I also did the dress thing and bought 5 cute outfits at Petco. |
Yep, I think it's a personal preference. My girl is independent, however, I have found as she became older, she's now 2.5 yrs., she has become a real mommy's girl. She stays on daddy's lap only if I've not sat down yet..then it's right to me! LOVE IT ;). |
We have one of each - both are very affectionate but can also be independent. Mabel is not as playful and loves to cuddle. Darwin is full on play mode and wants to fetch most of the day. They both settle down nicely and will lay with me when I sit down. It really depends on the individual dog - when I was looking for a little girl first, I fell in love with Darwin, of course, the next year I still wanted my little girl so.....:D |
I had my heart set on a girl,but no girls so I got a boy.. best boy ever had. Loves to cuttle. He has a draw full of oufits! he takes to the clothes, his carrier and stoller no problems. We travel alot. The only thing I recomend is if your going to carry him in a purse/bag start early...I did with Axel and he took right to it.. he is 5.5 lbs now and goes with us everwhere! |
Congrats on your new furbaby...just follow your heart. Lexi is a little girl and we couldn't be happier. She is very loving and loves to cuddle and be spoiled. Maybe because we only have her? She loves her mommy and daddy and has to be with us always. We take her everywhere we go..she honestly is very loving. Can't wait to see pictures...have you picked a name? |
Congrats to you on your new furbaby! I have a girl and she is very cuddly and loving. I really think it depends on the dog not the sex of the dog. Just my opinion. But let me warn you, getting a girl needs to come with a warning sign. Lol. I have so many dresses and hairbows it is ridiculous. :D She is just so much fun to buy for! Also, I think girls tend to be more "moody". Mine will let you know when she is mad at you! :) But I would not trade her for all the money in the world. Good luck with your new baby. |
Congrats!! 1 Attachment(s) Congrats to you! What is a shorkie? Shih tzu/yorkie? I wanted a girl yorkie so BAD! You have no idea, I got Peanut from a lady that knew a bredder. When I worked at this Vet she would come in and bring the dogs to get their vaccines,( we became friends) well I told her to find me a yorkie. She would bring me a different girl about once a week or so, everyone she brought me I didnt like something about them, then she called me and said " I have your baby". Well I didnt know if it was a female, I just assumed it was. When she brought this puppy in I fell in LOVE. I said she is perfect!! She giggled and said she is a boy!! :eek: I didnt care, I knew instantly that the puppy she had was mine! I honeslty think when you see the puppy you know :D Peanut is very loving, at first he was a little turkey! He was very playful as a puppy, got into everything. He was very active! He is 4 and has mellowed out a lot! He is very loveable, and loves to be next to me. I think it depends on the bond you have with your dog, some males are more snuggly than females yes, but honeslty it comes down to the love you have for eachother!! |
