Is it just me or do these two statements NOT belong in the same post??? They seem at polar opposite ends of the spectrum.

I decided as hard as it was, to turn away from this situation. She was only interested in money. If we give in every time to these people, then we are the ones to perpetuate the viscous cycle with BYB.

Her response said it all. I emailed her a few more times asking about her pedigree and if she was selling her or only accepting a trade for an iPad or laptop and never got a response. Look at the response I got at the end of the day though...who ever shows of first with cash gets her??? I want to punch people like that...really.

I am sure I don't understand this. I always want my babies to go to the perfect forever home. So I am never rushed to 'get rid of them'. What does this mean ? I have placed puppies for things other than money. Short story. I took a littler in to get their health check. And was talking to the Vet Tec. she mentioned A retired couple lost their Yorkie at 17 years old. I ask her to call them and ask if they would like to call me. They called the next day. They wanted a puppy but, were on a fixed income and had been looking for a small dog at the pound, for about 6 mo.s. But so far they had not found a dog under 20 lbs. (weight limit at the condo) that would work for them. So after talking several times and visiting them, I really wanted them to have one of my puppies. They were both retired teachers. Long story short, they did some dog sitting for us and he built us 4 amazing birdhouses and Wendal ( the puppy) got the perfect home.

No it is not just you. I thought the same thing and I am always horrified when people use their so called "faith" and in reality act abominally.

It wasn't so much that she was bartering the dogs, it was the fact that she said, "Whoever shows up first with the trade or cash is going to get her." The ad itself is very coldhearted, as if a tv and a yorkie have equal value. If you are going to barter your dogs, I hope the people who buy them have ample money or bartering skills for vet care. If a person can’t afford to pay cash, I wonder how they will afford vet care, and if they will be inclined to take shortcuts, with their health.

Nothing wrong with that...I would do the same thing as long as I knew they pup was going to a good and loving home. When you think about it...selling for cash is just another trade of goods, all in how one looks at it. Barter for cash, barter for services, barter for goods...it's the quality of the home that counts. Not that I'm condoning the IPAD lady, but with 4 more on the way for us...with two "supposedly" taken (who knows people back out sometimes, so I never count on anyone's word as everyone wants a puppy but that doesn't mean they're willing to pay for one) one has to concern themselves with such things.

Well I think your situation was very different than the ad that was posted. The couple you ended up bartering with was recommended by your Vet Tech; you talked with them several times; you visited their home; they dog-sat for you . . . . . that's a LOT different than saying 'whoever shows up first with the cash will get my discarded dog".

People don't take kindly to the latter attidude here.

I think the ad itself shows the intentions of the seller/breeder. One ad claimed age of 3, one claimed age of 4 - pedigree shows age of 5. This is a poor girl used for breeding who really is now too old to continue to breed, who instead of being sold neutered as a pet, is being sold (or bartered) as a breeder who consistently produces small pups.

I don't think the bartering in and of itself is the problem. It is the apparent disregard for the well-being of a little girl who should probably be scheduled for a spay and found a furever home for as a pet. I don't think reputable breeders treat pups like this (or misinform potential buyers about ages of dogs).
