No puppy yet, but looking forward to it! Hi! I am very new to this site. I unfortunately have to admit that I do not have a puppy to love yet. I started doing my research about a month ago to try to find the best dog to fit my lifestyle. I finally decided that a yorkie would be the best option for me and started to do more in depth research and trying to find more specific facts about the breed. I think I have learned SO much just from browsing this forum. I have also found somebody locally who has owned yorkies for the past 7 years and one of her females just had a litter. They puppies will be 3 months next week and I have been over there a few times already to see which one I would like. I think I am leaning towards a little girl. :D I'm very excited to be a mommy! I have grown up in a house filled with pets my whole life and when I had to go to college it felt so horrible not being in a house full of pets. But now that I am in my final year of college and have the funds to take care of a pet sufficiently, I think I am ready. But I did have a few questions for everybody because I am a little worried and want to make sure that I have the best environment for my new pup. What are some things I should purchase before I get my puppy? How do I find a good vet? Is it possible to litter box train my puppy? Is a 3 bedroom apartment big enough for my puppy? How can I get my puppy comfortable with his new home? Is it possible for me to train my puppy myself instead of sending him to a professional trainer? Also any other facts and information would also be very appreciated! TIA! |
Congrats and best of luck. Make sure the pup is up to date on all shots. How are the pups parents as far as temperment and breed standard. You can read all about that here...YTCA.org Sometimes it is easy to find a good vet, but harder to find a great one. Ask people with dogs where they go, and why. Where does your breeder go and why? You will need a crate, X-pen, pee pads, bowls for food and water, FOOD that they are now eating, harness, leash, pick up bags, comb, brushes, shampoo, beds, chew toys. Take the dog to the Vet after you take possesion. What type of guarantee for health? Yes, you can work on training the pup, but nothing like a good Puppy Kindergarten class for socialization. and some basic training. Do not let anyone hold your pup, because they can be squirmy and may job out of their arms and break a leg....Yes, we leaned the hard way. $3600 later, good as new. There are some great people here. Any questions, just ask. I am still learning myself. Welcome aboard. |

Congrats on getting a Yorkie!! There is nothing greater than being a new Yorkie momma! :) They can be very loving little furbabies!! As far as what you need, Steve just about covered it all for you. The only think I would add is Nutracal and maybe a bed. Once you get your baby you will see there are so many more things you will want to add! :) I will warn you buying for a Yorkie is addicting! :D As far as a vet, ask around. People talk. They will tell you who is good and who is not. As far as making your puppy comfortable, when we got Rosie I just showed her lots of love. She was really nervous at first but seems to have really gotten over that! ;) There are so many knowledgeable people here. I know that so many of them will have more answers for you. Congrats on your new baby and welcome to YorkieTalk! :yorkiesar |
