HELP.......I need food suggestions My 7 month old yorkie has decided she doesn't need much to eat these days. She still wants to eat everything we are eating (we don't let her) and still wants her treats (milk bones, etc.) but she won't eat her meals. If she eats any of it......it is just picking at it. Any sugestions out there on what food to give her. She is currently on Royal Canin dry mixed with Little Champions wet. She used to like it, but now when she walks towards her dish she pulls away like she can barely stand the smell. I would like to try something new...............what is the best way to do that? :confused: |

She offers wonderful advice on what to look for in a dog food and what not to feed. I also offered a few other suggestions in your other post. I know many here on YT feed many of those with great success. Currently Taycie is on Natural Balance with a little wet food mixed in. |
I'd say it's time for a food change ~ there are better foods than Royal Canine and if she is not eating - the time is right for a change! Lucy is a picky eater as well. Currently she eats Blue Buffalor (Senior) she needs lower protein due to her liver issues. I mix it with Wellness 99% meat (canned) Chicken, Turkey, Lamb or Beef as well for my Westie. Lucy loves these things mixed in with her kibble - other than the canned meat - canned & cooked carrots; green beans; plain noodles; chicken broth; organic chicken breast (no spices); cottage cheese; scrambled egg; parmesean cheese sprinkled on top . . . . we've tried lots of different things and she likes a little variety now and then. I feed Nature's Variety. My dogs have always liked it and have done very well on it. A co-worker has a beagle that he had trouble finding a food she'd eat and he tried NV and she loves it. Might be worth a try. You can get a "try it" coupon on their website too. |
Don't forget, at 7 months, she done most of her growing, and doesn't need the same amount of food she need during her growing period. If she walks away, maybe she just isn’t hungry. The good thing about kibble, is dogs are less likely to overeat, they will only eat when they are really hungry. This isn’t true with canned food or fresh food, some dogs would eat themselves to death! |

I used to feed RC and really don't like it. I feed Now! which is grain free now. I love it! Harley munches it up. It' also has made him a lot healthier and limited the amount of eye goop and poo eating. I'm a big fan of the grain-free. |
YAY.........I think !!!! Just went to Petco and bought her some Blue Buffalo. I put some in the palm of my hand and she ate it right up. Of course that was me "hand" feeding her and spoiling her as usual! We will see how she does when I put it in her bowl. I think I will also try the scrambled egg thing just to give her some variety! Thanks again everyone...............for all of your suggestions. I always know I can count on YT !!!! Everytime I have a concern now my husband says "Why don't you go online and ask your people?" LOL |

I noticed also, that some pups just get bored with food. I know, after Gizmo is almost done with his Innova, we may transition to something else, and when that's done, go back to Innova. I know there are some YTer's on here that actually switch between two different foods. One kind in the morning, and a different at night. All depends on your little furbaby's tastes. |
My dogs, all five, go CRAZY over Merrick canned. I give them dry food all day available but dinnertime they each get about 1/4 cup of Merrick wet and they go nuts. |
I add a little plain low fat yogurt and mix it in the dry food. I feed Taste of the Wild. My dogs love it this way and it works as a probiotic as well. |

I don't know why either, but they love it. Kalina just had a litter of five, so I give her the Merrick smothered chicken because the bones are loaded with calcium. She adores it. It is actually quite expensive, but because of it my Gidget is now at a normal weight and that's good enough for me! |
