Hip/Leg problem? Hey everyone: Well, as a first-time puppy parent, here I am again asking for everyone's input and advice. I just recently noticed that when my baby girl, Gia, runs really fast, she doesn't put weight down on her back right leg. In addition, she walks bow-legged frequently (is this normal?) She puts pressure on all her legs normally, but sometimes when she's eating I'll notice that the back right leg is slightly lifted off the ground. She doesn't hold it up or anything, it's just a slight thing that she does. I've run my hands down her legs and she doesn't yelp, and she'll jump on her back legs without a problem.... just wanted to see if anyone else had seen this in their puppies before. (She'll be one next Tuesday, so maybe it's a growing spurt?) Any help is great. Thanks so much, as always! |
Hmm, the only thing that worries me is that it may be a luxating petella. However, from lack of experience with it, I don't know if she would yelp if you pressed on it or not if she did have a LP. If it was Gizmo, I would get an x-ray, just to be on the safe side. |

When in doubt, have a vet check it out! |

:( I googled that... I had never heard of it. I will go get her x-rayed after the holiday weekend. I hope that's not what it is, but you're right, much better to be safe than sorry. Thanks so much for the tip. <3 |
I just zapped my entire post. A pup that always keeps her leg up like that has a problem. Perhaps not an emergency if this has been going on, but she definitely needs to be seen by a vet after the weekend. good luck! |
