pulling hair away from eyes harmful? My mother-in-law told me that pulling the hair up into a bow or hair barett would make my Yorkie go blind because their eyes needed the protection from the hair. Not sure where she heard this but it sounds strange to me. Any advice? |
The eyes are protected by eyelid and lashes. The hair is just that, hair. Just as human hair doesn't protect the eyes, neither does Yorkie hair. In fact, if left to grow down, it's possible for the hair to actually cause irritation and even infection to the eyes. Have no fear pulling the hair up in to a bow. |

Never heard this; I doubt if there is any basis in fact. |
My pups won't keep top knots in so I just get the hair cut short there- so they have no little eye protectors and we have never had a problem. |
thank you all for your quick replys. I didn't think there could be any truth in this but thought I would ask anyway. I don't want to hurt my Allie. |
Just keep in mind, if you start cutting the air around the eyes, you should keep cutting it. Once they start growing out, it can irritate the eyes when growing out. You can grow the hair out, just make sure to try and keep the hair out as much as possible. |
As noted above, Not pulling the hair away from the eyes would be harmful. If you do a topknot, make sure it isn't too tight. The eyes should not be pulled upward, and the skin shouldn't be stressed. |
