My Yorkie's Coat
 

Hi everybody, i am a new owner of a 2 year old yorkie. It doesn't look like the previous owner took very good care of her and i can't get her hair to grow. I brush her everyday to keep the knots out but I would like to be able to have her grow her hair long. Does anyone have any suggestions?? Hope to here from everybody! :aimeeyork

How long have you had her?

Is her hair thick or thin?

Is it silky or does it feel like cotton?

Has she been checked by a vet?

Is she healthy? What does she weigh? Is she a rescue or has she been used as a breeding girl?

Hello and Welcome. My little boys coat is not very long either.

Wow you guys are quick :) I have had her about a month. Her hair is cottony and kind of thick closer to her skin, but beyond that her hair seems thin and wirey, alittle brittle. I dont think she was ever breed but i dont know for sure. All I know is she was spade when i got her so we wont get to have any puppies :( She does look better since I got rid of all her flees, she was infested when i got her. thankfully they are all gone now. i am not too sure on her weight either, I woud guestimate not less than 7 no more than 10 lbs..i am not sure what the average weight is but she seems to be pretty healthy now since i have had her. i just can't get her hair to grow.

Congratulations on your new lil girl, by the way. :D Have you ever had a yorkie before? If not, you're in for more fun and years of unconditional love than you could imagine. You won't see much hair growth in just a month. She is a good size and should be a healthy yorkie, too. They aren't so fragile when they are not so tiny. If her hair is very short, it will probably be several months before you notice any growth. You might want to get some multi-vitamins, such as Pet-Tabs and give her one every day. Feeding her an excellent food will make a difference, too. The Wal-Mart and grocery store brands are not good foods. If you need advice on them, just about anyone here can give you the names of a number of them. Also, it's important that she be bathed in a shampoo that does not dry out her coat and skin. I never needed a special shampoo on mine, but I used Pro-V shampoo w/conditioner successfully. It has always left their coats soft and easy to manage. Also, when you brush her coat when it is dry, you can cause breakage if you aren't careful. Use a wire brush with ball tips and use a spray-in conditioner before you brush. :) What is her name?

Everyone gave great advice. thank you very much. :) Yes, this is the first Yorkie i have owned. She is very playful, in fact right now she is playing with my 18 month old son lol. I was worried at first about having a small dog around him because he can be rough, but they are doing great together. Well I better get going, thanks again!

Hi and welcome to YT. Their coat does take a while to grow. I was also thinking about breakage. Make sure you never brush it dry. Quite a few peple her use Salmon oil for their coats.

I give my dogs missing link. It a suppliment and My Jewels hair grows pretty fast.
