I totally agree! I have seen you post a similiar statement on another thread in reference to the size/mix issue and incase you don't realize it to us that do own larger YORKIES it is offensive to think we are so naive and don't know what kind of dog we bought and own. |
I REALLY have to wonder about a few statements here - Based on what I've been reading and we see this too often ..size DOES have something to do with health....lately there have been TOO MANY posts about yorkies with Liver Shunt, LP and other problems - It seems to be affecting very small yorkies vs. the larger ones Some of the posts are heartbreaking because these little yorkies ARE so small the worry is over not only having surgery - BUT the anesthetic affecting them due to their size.... ps....I have a larger yorkie, Chanel. She most def is not a silky and I am perfectly happy with her size. |

Potential Teapot I did my research before ever buying and bringing Pixie home last Feb. but boy did I have a lot more to learn! When I lost her in Sept. it was due to a freak accident, but one that she most likely would have survived if not for her tiny size. My poor Pixie was having a lot of health problems due to her size, hypoglycemia, luxating patellas, second row of teeth that no vet would consent to treat because of the anesthesia threat. Before she died she had been in her first heat for 2 months straight. I was spoon feeding her baby food because the vet agreed If I could get her to put on more weight they would operate. Soooo, after all that you can bet I chose a nice big chunk o' puppy to love when we bought our new little girl. At six weeks she was 1 lb, 14 oz, which was heavier then any of the charts I've seen linked here, so who knows how big she'll turn up? Mom was 6 and dad was 5, so maybe she'll be 11! :lol tears I am just happy to have a healthy teapot! We finally decided on a name for her, Chloe. Last thing I want to say is a big thank you to all of the regulars who have had Yorkies forever, and are so willing to help & share info with us "newbies" I do a lot more reading than posting, because I know you all know your stuff! Try not to be too hard on the newbie who posted that stuff about size & impurity. I know I have asked some whoppers that had you all saying "duh!" before. We'd rather be kind and keep the newbies here so they can continue to learn rather than run them off. No offense to anyone here, and I hope none is taken by anyone. I just know this is a valuable resource for a yorkie owner, and would hate to see it go sour with negative posts! :yorkietal |

http://www.shooterdog.com/alex.htm The article I posted came from this website. This woman was hardly someone with a whacky opinion. And I am not the one that mentioned Silky. The only reason I posted this information is I thought her description of the teacup term and her unemotional approach to size difference was good. People can and should be happy with the size of their Yorkies. I think we can do that without bashing people that use the teacup term or own smaller Yorkies. |

I don't think that was me. Sorry if you were offended by my posting though it wasn't may "opinion". It was that of a respected Yorkie breeder. I think it is interesting that one breed of dogs look so different and range in size so much. I posted her website as one explaination for it. |

I am not a newbie but I think I am now a ex-poster. Take care and enjoy your pup. May you have a long and healthy life together! |

I cant post again! Yay! Ok, so I was DYING to post last night and today but it wouldn't work! But admin just straightened it out! So I'm back! :D I posted this thread JUST to make people laugh! ;) And to round up some "teapot yorkie" club members! :D Oh yea, and Harley wanted me to tell you that he has so graciously deemed himself president! :p So lets keep on searching for more teapots and spread our grins a little bit wider! :D |
Teapot-Dublin the luvin My 9+ lb Dublin would like to join. He wants to be treasurer so he can play with the mooolah!! :p |
I've got one too! 1 Attachment(s) Hello, I'm new here and I was reading through the post and I have to say I've got a teapot Yorkee too! Tiffy she is 11.5 months old and weighs around 8 lbs. and I also have Teddy, he is 13.5 months old and he weighs around 4.5 to 5 lbs. He is the Yorkee as you all say and she is the silky. Can I ask is she a real Yorkee even tho she is the silky (They both are AKC)? Or is it Teddy? He has the wirey hair and I noticed you all talking about them. I hope it is fine to mate them with each other for this is what I plan on doing. When they get old enough. I also have lots of other questions. They are my dolls and I love them to peices my husband bought Teddy for me 1st for X-Mas (I've wanted them for a long time!) and we got him the week of Thanksgiving I was tickled pink! He was so very small tho and little only weighing 1.5 lbs. @ 6 weeks old. Then we found Tiffy and she came to us after X-mas in Jan. she was so much bigger then him... I was like are you sure she is a Yorkee? She looked different then him. (You'll see in the photo (If it shows up and I loaded it right lol.) how different their sizes are but now that I've read some of the post I'm glad that she is bigger.Teddy is the one with the pony tail (On the right) and he was 3 months old and weighed 3 lbs. 2 ozs. Tiffy (On the left) was 7 weeks old and weighed 3 lbs. 3 ozs. But now that they both are older to be truthful I like her hair better then his, it's easier to care for to keep up in a ponytail and no matts. His is so dry and matts so easy. Her's looks like silk and his looks like you threw him in the dryer with no fabric softner. LOL. But that is how they look. I love them both and they along with my 4 daughters are my life! Thanks and Hugs, Lee |

Regarding your other question about mating them with each other, I hope some more knowledgeable breeders can post here and tell you the things you need to watch out for when mating two Yorkies. Its not as easy as just mating two adorable dogs - there are a lot of genetic issues you should screen for and be careful of. Hope this helps! :) |
Well I thought I had added Bentley to the "Teapot" club a while back but just read the whole thread and I did not!!! Bentley is a whopping 13 lbs now at two years old...maybe I should let him join the Tea Pitcher club :D |

LOL!!! And he would be PROUD to wear that title :p He is AKC reg. but people in Petsmart have asked the silky question before because he's on the larger side...BUT his weight is very well purportioned (is that a word??? I looked it up in the dictionary but didn't see it :D ) |
LOL!! Yes it's a word but I'm taking a chance here without spellcheck - porportioned .... man we are lazy since we all go on computers - did you REALLY look in the dictionary or ONLINE like I think ? and he'd make a VERY GREAT Pitcher of Beer" Club Pres - you never know ...the trend in yorkies may sway back to the normal size and you can tell everyone that...."Not Only is Bently a member of the club....he's also the president" ! heehee :D :D :D I've ALWAYS wanted to make fun of that Bald men's commercial |
Can Sammi be a teapot too!! She is 13lbs and 19inches long... :) XoXoXo |
YES, I did look it up, LOL!!! I have a humongous Websters dictionary sitting right beside my desk and I use it ALL THE TIME when I'm posting on here because all of you on here sound so smart and professional and studious and I don't want you all to think I can't spell :p And I STILL mispell words ALL the time!!! Probably a word in THIS post is mispelled :D BTW, I looked up your spelling and....BEEEEP... Mr. Webster said you were wrong too! I am pretty sure it's a word but I looked up porportioned, purportioned AND parportioned and neither of those are in there!!! |
HAHAHA LOVED THE BEEP !!! That ISN't a word ? You mean all those (drunk) guys who used to tell me I was perfectly porportioned were LYING ? !!  A real dictionary - no kidding ? I didn't know they were still in print ! :D |
For your info..... Just in case anyone feels dumb when they mis-spell words..... I was told a looooong time ago, that your ability to spell has no bearing on intelligence. Some people who are geniuses (sp?) can't spell either. And some people who can spell good aren't very smart. Might make some people feel better. It did me! |

Man I feel so SMART now :D |
TeaPot is a lot nicer than what I call my Chizziewink. At 7 lbs. she is a CHUNK compared to Chattie (5 lbs.) and Peppy (3.25 lbs.) so I just call her fatbutt or lardbutt. (hope I didn't offend anyone with the b.. word) LOL I'll have to remember the TEAPOt! |

Thanks so much for your thoughts, I know there is a lot of things to look out for and I've been reading all I can here to find out more. I love Yorkees. I am a stay @ home mother so I can be here for them when we do get puppies and we have the money incase something happens. I just need to read more about the things that may go wrong. You know I had another dog (Mut) like 12 years ago and she had puppies and I wasn't a bit worried about it. I helped her and they all lived she was a smaller dog and had mated with a chauawa (Spelling there) so they was tiny pups but with these to I'm getting scared, why I don't know. But I told my husband you know when Buffy had her puppies I didn't worry @ all about it I just helped her. But with Tiffy and Teddy I worry. Isn't that silly? Well I'll keep reading more here and see what I can find out. This board is so very much helpful! Hugs, Lee |

I love Microsoft Word because they give me alternatives. Wish I could download their software into my brain! :D |

I've heard that word all my life I think??? But it's NOT in there!!! Glad to know that my mispellings aren't a clue to my intelligence :D I just hope everyone else knows that too!!! I don't mind mispelling the smaller words...it's the big words that make me sound smart that I HATe to mispell :p And I try to rewrite a sentence too if I don't know how to spell a word...just so I don't have to reach for my dictionary :D |
You guys are such goofs! It's spelled "proportioned" lol :p |
