At what age? At what age does my yorkie become a senior dog? I really havent thought about this before as Foxy is 5, but just curious. Also anyone have any good recommendations to put some weight on her. She currently eats Natural Balance Limited ingredients, and likes it, but she just seems so skinny. Thanks. |
My vet recommends starting more extensive annual testing around age 8-9, but I'm not sure if that is the age a dog is considered "senior." Does she have allergies that require the LID? |
Here is one thread about adding weight: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...an-please.html |
Dogs are senior at age 7, but for small breeds, the title can probably be pushed back til age 9 or 10. I have a 9 year old and don't really consider her a senior. How much is she eating and how much does she weigh? We do testing annually regardless of age. Twice a year wouldn't hurt either. At this point I just do a blood panel with CBC and a U/A (plus heartworm, fecal...). The blood panel we are doing now is not very in depth. If my girl were totally healthy, then I'd get something more detailed. However, at this point with all that she already has wrong, we probably aren't going to start trying to diagnosis and treat a crazy abnormality that shows up. |
Well a bit on her history, she was in bad shape when I got her. She was pregnant and we had her spayed for health reasons. She still has to have a dental done, she doesnt have any allergies that I am aware of, I just tried it because before when she was eating Royal Canin her eyes were watering really bad, and since she has been eating Natural Balance that has stopped. I free feed her because she is so skinny and she nibbles on it through out the day. Usually first thing in the morning and then at night before she goes to bed. I know the pregnancy was rough on her, but I would still like to bulk her up some. Thanks. |
Meant to add at her first vet vist and she was in beginning stages of pregnancy she weighed 4.4 lbs. |
Also we just did a blood panel on her, and shes already had her heartworm testing. We did the pre op bloodwork before her spay and everything was normal. |
