Yorkie babies adult weight I'm looking to purchase a new yorkie baby. I've been speaking with a breeder who's baby is 8 weeks and weight 1.2 lbs. Any idea how big she'll get? The breeder says 3 lbs but any weight chart I read it says 3.6-4 |
Hard to tell at 8 weeks, or even 12 weeks. The best breeders will tell you that they can't guarantee, only estimate. Generally, you can double the weight at 12 weeks and sometimes add a pound. Some pups are complete surprises and stay really little or grow much bigger. My boys were on track to be about 6-7 pounds, but they grew to 7-8 pounds. Best to bring your new pup home at 12 weeks or older. They should be with their mom until then. Good luck. |
Normally Breeders guesstimate adult weight by past pups and past generations in the peds. I have a female that weighed 20 ozs at 8 weeks and I took that multiplied it by 3 and then divided it by 16 to get her estimated adult weight. But it's just an estimate because there is no guarantee on what a pup is going to weigh as an adult. I had a pup that was charting to be 7 lbs as an adult he is now 12 lbs. So you really can't go by the chart. |
The weight chart only gives you an idea.. for me it always worked.. afterall you cant trust that the breed is telling you the truth.. |
The weight chart will give you a general idea but you also have to take into account how much you feed and what else they EAT. The weight chart on Bella said she should be around 5 - 5 1/2 lbs . I think she has surpassed that but I can't tell how much because I haven't weighed her recently. This wouldn't surprise me though because she eats almost anything that interests her, like paper, bugs and sticks! |
I had no luck with the weight chart!! Some pups are little fatties at 8-12 weeks, then barely grow after that...on the other hand, some of the runts turn out to be teapots!! My oldest boy stayed around 2 pounds until he was a year old...then grew into a 5 pounder! I have a 13 week old who has been 2.2-2.4 the past 4 weeks! |
My Razael was 1 pound 11 ounces at 14 weeks and now fully grown at 7 pounds. You just can't always go by those charts. |
