I am happy that I have not had any vet horror stories like that. Somehow I found my vet on the first try and I love them!!! |
Also....Chanel itched REALLY bad the first year she started playing in the hose - I used Vetrenarians Best Moisture Mist SKIN Conditioner (Petco) and it stopped her itching in less than 24 hours...she has never itched since that summer |
Do you have a vet in your locality that deals only with small animals? I found with our dogs in the past the vets that only delt with small dogs/cats/rabits/hamsters (you get the idea) are the best. I have recently moved and had to get a new vet. I rung up loads of different places and settled on one where the vet herself had small dogs. This way they understand where you are coming from and probably have had to deal with doggy problems themselves. Make them much more understanding and sympathetic |
I forgot to mention this on my first post, the day before I got Brie from the breeder, they did a scrape test(or whatever its called) bc they thought something may be wrong with her bc she slept alot. They did it on the top of her head. The scab was smaller than the end of a standard pen(like a bic or papermate). |
what the _____? I would be so mad right now. You poor thing!!!! :thumbdown |
Switching vets I recently just switched Bella's vet... What an ordeal... you know it isn't "right" when the first ? the vet asks you when seeing your baby for the first time is "why would you ever want a dog this little when you have a 70lb lab?" well.... I wanted to say... none of your business... but I went on to explain how I watch them closely and that Bella was an absolute joy to have around and complimented my family!... Things snowballed from there... Bella absolutely hated her vet... my husband thinks that Bella was picking up on my frustration with this goofball... Bella actually growled at her at one point when she picked Bella up by the scruff of the neck to check her belly.... Why she had to pick her up that way I'll never know... if she wanted to examine her belly.... I could have easily turned her and held her.....! Anyway... this vet ended up giving Bella a dose of one of the immunizations that she wasn't supposed to get at that appointment.... nothing happened but it scared me..... Bella was only a little under 2lb when it happened and I realized that this vet was just not for us... accident or not! We are now seeing a new vet who Bella just loves... she is very gentle with her and Bella actually goofs off when we are there and doesn't shake and try to hide in my coat.... she took plenty of time with us and asked me my concerns and what I thought... SHE IS THE BEST! So... don't stop looking for a vet that works for you... each dog is different... our former vet worked really well with our lab... but once I thought about it... maybe she was not confident in her practice with such a small breed..and we were feeling her insecurities.. Keep searching... you will find a good one out there that both you and Lexi like! |

I want to thank everyone for all your help. I have a feeling WE are going to diagnose her long before any vet does. :D |

I am so sorry for your experience with the vet. Get a new vet! Give hugs and kisses to Lexi for me. Let us know how she is doing. Barbg |

Tricia, Dublin scratches, too. Not as bad as poor little Lexi, but more than normal. I've been trying different foods, but that doesn't seem to help. I read above about the Derm Caps, and found them in the Revival catalog. if you're interested... revivalanimal.com Give da babies kisses from Dublin! |
It could just be allergies. My vet said skin allergies with dogs are real bad right now. Chachi chewed an open wound on his back. They shaved that are and it is purple and looks real bad. We have to give him Antibiotics and a medicine that keeps him from itching plus put this spray medicine on him. |
Im so sorry they had to do a skin scrape on your baby. My boxer actually had demadectic(sp?) mange 3 years ago and they had to do this to her. It bled and an I hated it. It also took several weeks to get over the mange and several treatments(dips). Meanwhile my Min Pin that I had at the time also got demedectic mange. This is really rare because its not a contagious thing. But needless to say they both had it and had to get trated for it. They were losing lots of hair to the mange and had lots of bald spots which of course healed and you can never tell now. Sorry for the story but the good thing is it all got better but when I was going through it I was a wreck. Even after it cleared up I would run to the vet everytime I thought I saw a possible spot. But of course there was no more and they never have had it since. :) I hope they can figure out what is wrong with lexi and get it all healed up soon. She is such a cute and sweet baby and i hope she has no more itches. Chloe & tink sends you and lexi kisses  |

What a shame...sometimes they are allergic to something in the house..like Sisel rugs...etc. Try looking at where they like to sleep. Good luck! Francie |
