Yorkie Gone Kujo! I have a 4month old Yorkie baby. He's been good up to now. He's been getting weekly baths with no problems. Last night, he went "Kujo" on me when I tried to dry him. He bit into my right index knuckle, shaking it, and tore my left thumb open; both are stiff and sore today. My husband even tried to help, but he bit my husband also. I'm very upset about this behavior. Can I muzzle him for a bath or will that make him worse? Thanks for any help/advise all the Yorkie-Veterans can give me. |
Hope your hand is feeling better! Those little teeth are very sharp! Does your pup have a cut or something that hurts and when you dried him he had pain? Maybe he's afraid of something? I can't think of anything else that would make him do that. Good luck!! |
That sounds pretty extreme, and I'd be concerned if this is the first time he has done it. He may be having a problem, pain, or something that triggered this. Were you using a blow dryer, or towel drying? |
probably he done it because he was too scared... when I bath my little girl I keep talking to her all the time and saying 'good girl' so she calms down.. :) |
Yorkies' skin is very sensitive... one needs to be very gentle when combing, brushing, and drying. One of my older dogs will snap if I even begin to snag a knot, and that's combing slowly and gently! I would suggest being more gentle... to the point of being rediculous, so he does not misinterpret your intentions... or just wrap him in the towel and let it absorb the water... or just pat him dry, instead of fluffing or rubbing the fur. Dogs react in the moment... so don't stay mad at him for long. He won't understand. I don't think a muzzle would work... just upset him more. |
Kujo Yorkie Nope, no cuts/injuries. Nothing different w/ the bath routine. I bathe him in the sink, put him on the counter to towel dry him and that's when he went totally ballistic: snarling, growling, teeth biting & whipping his head around to get at us. That's when he caught my fingers. I've always given him a reward treat after his bath for being good, but this time....yikes!! I've never had a Yorkie before so this really caught me off guard. |
I took him out of the sink and wrapped a towel over him, as I've always done. I can rub his whole body without problem. I can play with his feet & he's ok. I'm not mad at him; just disturbed about the whole incident. |
Hopefully it'll be just a one time thing. Did you try to verbally interupt him? Maybe try giving treats throughout the bath and drying... keep his little mind occupied? Has he learned basic commands yet? |
