Yorkie Barking while in his pen Hi All, We are having a problem with our 11 week old yorkie puppy barking and crying early in the morning. He will usually bark for a short time at about 2:00 am, but will stop after a few minutes, but then at about 4:30 am he will start barking and will not stop until we go down to him. We have tried letting him bark through it, but we have neighbors who I am sure are hearing him, so we cannot let it go on for very long before we go down stair. We keep him in a crate with the door open which is located in a pen where his toys and wee wee pads are, so he can and does go to the bathroom when he needs to. We have tried keeping the crate closed, but had the same result. We try to play and tire him out before he goes to sleep, but that has not worked. I am not sure what is the best way to get him to stop barking. I know he is just lonely and wants to play, but we need to try to quiet him down. Can anyone who has had a similar issue tell me how they have successfuly got thier dog to stop barking? Thanks for the advice, Randy |
Hi. I've only ever had 1 small pup, but 11 wks is very young to be separated from siblings and mother. Most breeders don't like to place them before 12 wks of age. I put a stuffed animal and a clock in w mine to help keep it co in its crate. I think they have stuffed animals with heartbeats inside (on amazon) that help the little one through the night when they miss their mom and siblings. There are ppl who have raised more tiny babies than I. They could probably give you more suggestions. |
I used a teddy bear with mine and a warm bottle of water... and also I always let her have food and water all night... it worked for me..:aimeeyork |
Keeping my shirt in his pen is making it better, so we will see how it goes. Thanks for the advice, |
Hi - I put Jovi's sleeing crate in our bedroom - she knows we are near and doesn't make a peep. Good luck!:p |
Kody's crate is in my bedroom as well. When he was younger it was too much room in the crate for him and he would cry too! Then I stuffed the back of the crate with a blanket to make it half of its size limiting the amount of space and it worked like a charm until he grew into it. They need to feel secure. |
