Getting Lucy this weekend: advice! I am bringing Lucy home this Saturday and it will be an 8 hour car ride. I am so nervous so I was wondering if anyone had any advice, or suggestions on things to bring...should I try to feed her food or just rely on nutrical? |
I bet you cant wait. Congratulations. I havent have any long car trips with Gucci, so I dont have an idea. I will think is best if you have food just in case and give her nutrical and water. Im just thinking that some pups get car sick so I dont know how she will react with food on her belly. For her safety i will keep her in her crate or car seat if you have one. Good luck in your trip. DOnt forget your cam. |
Aww congrats on getting your new baby! I would bring a little food along, and nutrical, and some water and stop every hour and a half to two hrs. Im sure everything will be just fine. Sometimes Ive got so many errends to run that Im in the car with Louie just around town for a couple hrs at a time and he is fine. Good Luck Hun! :) |
I would definately bring water from the breeder or bottled. Also maybe a soft toy to cuddle with in the crate. Definately nutrical, since it's 8 hours she will need some food also, just watch her closely for signs of stress and give her nutrical as a precaution. |
thanks for the replies. what exactly are the signs of stress? I am taking her to the vet that night, is there anything I should ask about? I think it is Lepto that they aren't supposed to get (shots), is that correct? I can not tell you how nervous I am. My laptop is not working so this is the last night I will have to ask all of my questions before I get her. |
Most reputable breeders will supply you with a toy or stuffed animal that the pup was given at birth and played with while growing up. When we brought Heidi home she was on my daughters lap with the stuffed toy she had while being raised at the breeders. She was very comfortable with the drive home I think due to the fact of the smell and sense that the toy had as far as being from her original place of birth. The breeder also gave us her blanket she slept on to help with the sudden change in her life. It worked out quite well. S/W |
As far as hypoglcemia from stress and or not eating make sure you give her some nutrical a couple of times during the trip especially if she wont eat. The signs are sleepiness, unresponiveness, shaking. By giving her the nutrical you should be able to avoid it. |
Long Car Ride I had a 4 hour car ride home with my puppy. We basically just had him drink water a couple of times. We kept him in a clothesbasket (in my lap in the front passender seat) with blankets and a stuffed animal that smelled like him littermates/mom. I took newspapers to try to get him to go to the bathroom on when we stopped. Good Luck! |
-empty plastic grocery bag -paper towels She will probablly get sick from being nervous! My Kelsey threw up all over my car when I was taking her home... |
Congrats, where are you getting her from? |
