House Training Issues ? My Yorkie puppy is 3 and a half months old, i had her for two weeks now, we're living on a schedule, so i can house train her, yesterday i almost cried, after taking her outside she comes back to the house and pees on the floor !!!! Anybody has any suggestions, she's a very smart girl with strong personality, and follows instructions otherwise, but we're having some pee issues ! What should i do ? How long does it normally take to house train a puppy ? |
Welcome to Yorkie world. Some Yorkies take a long time. I was lucky with Chloe, I got her at 7 weeks, didn't know better, and had her pad trained at 4 mos. But..........Willow was one year before she could be fully trusted. Please be patient, all of them are different and train in their own time. Two weeks isn't a long time and it's typical to experience what you did. My best advice is to settle back for the ride, it might be a long one and the more frustrated you become the longer it can be. Good luck. We have all been there. |
This is the biggest mistake people make when housetraining- no matter how long you have to be outside- you DO NOT come back in until she has done what she needs to outside- if she peed on the floor as soon as you came back in, she obviously didn't go outside. |
I am having the same problem. Abby is 15 weeks old and I have had her for 3 weeks. She is not in the crate all day. I cannot seem to do that, I just carry her to the pee pad when she starts to go. Now the new thing is she grabs the paper towel I am cleaning it up with and brings it to the pee pad. You gotta love them |
It takes a while. Consistancy, and a ton of praise when they go. They need to go out or in the pen almost every hour during the day so they get the hint. I have 2 brothers 6 months old. One is great and will go out and do it, with an occasional accident inside while the one we have had for 3 weeks is pretty well trained to go on a pad in a pen, but will hardly go at all outside, but we will slowly work on that. Our 14 year old female will still go in the house sometimes, and she knows better. I am not sure how old I was when I stopped making messes, I guess over 1 but before 2? |
