Soooooo excited! Hi Everyone! Well, after 20 yrs of dreaming of having my own Yorkie, I think it's finally going to happen. I can hardly believe it! I've always loved cats, and I have one now that's almost 15. I visited a yorkie breeder today. After 25 yrs of breeding, she and her husband have decided to stop breeding and they're giving away their adult yorkies...yes, that means free! I found the perfect little boy. He just turned 8 yrs old and is very quiet and laid back. He just loves to be with you and he also likes to go for walks. He's missing a few teeth, but is otherwise healthy. He weighs ab 5 lbs. I'm not getting him for a few weeks, so I'll need to get things ready for him. My cat is my priority, so I want to make sure I introduce them slowly and properly. He has lived w/cats before and being so laid back, I'm pretty sure he won't bother her. Any comments, advice, is welcome! And BTW, his name is Mick. Thanks for reading! |
CONGRATS on your new baby! Would love to see piccies. And WELCOME to YT! :) |
Congrats on your little one to come! You will have to post some pics! So glad to hear you are entering the Yorkieworld - you'll never go back! |
Congratulations. Will you be getting the little guy fixed if he has been used as a stud? |
Hello and thanks to everyone! Yes, I'll be getting him neutered, microchipped and his teeth cleaned. I'll post a picture soon! |
Welcome to YT!! Congrats on your new baby! Can't wait to see pictures! :D |
Welcome! I can hear your excitement and I'm so happy for you and Mick. He is one lucky little fella to be coming to his forever home with you. If he's been around cats, he should do well with yours. Just take it slow. CONGRATS! When will he be coming home? Can't wait to see pictures:D |
Congratulations to you and Mick!! Wishing you many fun filled times together! |
HI and Welcome :) , I grew up in Penfield in Willow Pond. So excited for you , can you tell me if this person has other dogs, I have a very good friend who has just completed chemo and radiation for breast cancer, she is now home all the time and 8 years ago her Maltese passed away , she is ready for another dog... Please PM me if you know any further info.. Your yorkie will make you soo happy;) |
I was always a cat person too. It's funny how Yorkie people are often cat people. Sometimes I think my Yorkie acts more like a cat. We had a 23 lb. cat when we got our baby. Sophie was very little when we got her, about 10 wks. We were worried about how the cat would do. He was a very laid back cat, but Sophie ruled the roost for nearly 10 years. We just recently had to put our precious kitty down. He was about 18 yrs. Sophie really misses him, even thought you would never have believed she liked him. She herded him everywhere and made sure he was in his place at all times.:D Enjoy your new baby. How wonderful. |
Congratulations, I have 4 yorkies and 3 cats. Our 18 lb Siamese cat it their best friend. Good luck with Mick. |
Congratulations. That is so exciting. I can't wait to see pictures. |
Congrats on the new addition- can't wait to see pics when he is home :) |
You are all so supportive. Thank you, esp for the encouragement ab Yorkies and cats. I don't want Gracie (my cat) to ever feel like she's being replaced. |
You are all so supportive. :aimeeyork Thank you, esp for the encouragement ab Yorkies and cats. I don't want Gracie (my cat) to ever feel like she's being replaced. I have a pic I'm trying to upload, but my smartphone isn't that smart (lol)...I'll try from my PC! |
Congrats!!!! How exciting!!! Good luck and can't wait to see him! |
Is that his picture in your avatar? |
Thank you Kendra! And yes, Susan, that's him in my avatar. That's all I was able to do from my phone. More pics when I get him. And, of course, he's soooooo much cuter than his picture :) !!! |
Congrats and welcome to YT. We have a 18 lb Maine coone here, and Razz our Yorkie bosses him around a lot. But our cat is pretty laid back, and has his climbing towers, his bed up on high, so lots of places to avoid his pesky bro. I just want to suggest that prior to the operation, you get a full blood panel done, and also to make sure you get his health records from the owner. Best of luck with your new addition, and we will be looking for pics soon. |
Thanks Gail! I appreciate the good advice. :) |
So glad you are getting your long awaited Yorkie. Your Kitty and he should be friends in no time. You will set the example. I am so happy for you, Mick and Gracie. Hugs from Rubyboy,Gracie Poo, King Abba, Noah, and me (Granny T). |
Such a sweet message Teresa! It's so great to talk to people who really understand what a HUGE event this is to me. oxox |
Congratulations on your new Yorkiebaby! You will never regret having him in your life.:thumbup: Our Toto will be 8 yrs. in July and we love her beyond belief. Looking forward to hearing all your new adventures and seeing lots of pictures. ;) |
My Baby!!!! 4 Attachment(s) Hello all you Yorkie lovers!! Sorry for the long absence, but Mick and I have been settling in. I brought him home on 6/11/11, one week shy of my birthday. What a BEAUTIFUL, SWEET, gift he's turned out to be. None of my initial fears were realized: * He completely ignores my 15 yr old cat. It's like he can see right through her. * Even tho he wasn't neutered till 8 yrs old, he has never marked in the house. * He stays with me while I take care of my Dwarf bunny, but shows no interest. * He's adapted completely to our home in terms of potty training. My Dad is 84 and often comes to visit. There is a complete love affair going on w/the two of them. I love the special smile on my Dad's face whenever he's around Mick. My first Yorkie. I hope he lives a VERY long life, because I'm completely in love. Thanks SO MUCH to all of you who wished me well. I am very blessed. Hope to hear from you soon...enjoy the pics!!! oxox Mick and Mommy |
